Say it, don’t spray it.
Why does she make a distinction between Christian values and Evangelical values? What values do Evangelicals have that other Christians lack?
Amen. We do get who we deserve. Remember when the Israelites wanted a king instead of god. He let them have what they wanted and it did not go well.
Why does he carry his motherâs Bible? Doesnât he own one? :)
In that case, I rescind my previous comment. My apologies.
The sarcasm tags would help.
That’s not what she said at all.
Well being an evangelical Christian is fine but that’s not the criteria for selecting a good President. Evidenced by Ronaldus Maximum.
Months later, I was baptized and truly born again! My life was positively changed forever. It made my life so much easier and better.
Prosperity Gospel - beware of these people. Jesus never promised believers a life on "easy street" and things would get better here on earth. We can expect persecution and hardship; we are aliens in this world.
Is this Newtâs older sister? If so, perhaps she would comment on Newtâs applied religion.
Yes she is Newt’s sister-Interesting that in 2012, she had no problem supporting Newt’s campaign with all Newt’s “warts” ...
Though he may have been a great Speaker backin the day, and he may still be a very savvy politician, he has had is share of personal scandals—3 marriages, 2 extra-marital affairs(understatement~one with sick wife in hospital... ), campaign finance issues, etc...
So I am somewhat surprised that she overlooks those issues with her brother, yet feels fellow Christians should not vote for anyone but Cruz...
Frankly, She has a lot of Chutzpah writing this...Based on the article in Townhall, her brother (for whom she campaigned) would not have passed her muster in 2016.

"The louder he spoke of his honor, the faster we counted our spoons."
Politics and religion makes for strange bedfellows... and Jesus is seldom the ‘leader’. Evangelicals stain their brand by attaching themselves to a serial liar. Christ warned about those that come in His name and He never sent them...
Newt was a follower of Pope Francis last I heard - closer to Bernie Sanders than the liberal Presbyterians she is complaining about.

‘-——————————————
Oh yes I know Newt is Catholic. That is not the point.
The gist of the article is not that Donald is Presbyterian...
Her issue with Trump is that he is not evangelical enough for her—she actually states she has a pretty good idea (judge) the hearts of the candidates”...Wow that shows a lot of chutzpah—Hmm I have not used that word for a long time and have used it twice to describe her...
From the article:
Brothers and sisters, I cannot understand why some of you are supporting the republican presidential candidate most unlike an evangelical. I hear some of you support him because you think he can win, and righteous candidates like Cruz can’t. Are you discounting his high negatives which exceed the other candidates? You are willing to disregard all Trump says and does? His greed, empty promises, boasting, convenient changing of his positions to gain favor and votes are ok with you? His past personal and financial support for issues and people we have never and will never support. How does this square with Christian, and especially evangelical values?
There are other candidates with heartfelt Christian values. I think I have a pretty good idea of the content of their hearts. I don’t even attempt to understand or judge the content of Mr. Trump’s heart. Maybe just too many layers of something else for me to get to it. Seems to me that Trump has hijacked other candidates’ ideas and their Christian values. He is just louder at expressing many of their ideas. So, Trump says what is on his mind, so do the other candidates in a more civilized and considerate manner. Please take a little time off the Trump bandwagon to learn more about the other good men and women running to save our country. Personally, I prefer a knowledgeable, intelligent, gentlemanly or ladylike Believer as my President.
If she wants to judge all the candidates and their hearts, she ought to disavow her support of Newt in 2012—it would have lent more credibility her and her commentary.
The sad part is that the venom around here is SO bad that you could easily believe that someone would say something like that unironically.
And they have.
On another thread, I had someone explicitly compare me to a demon because I’m a believer in Christ and I’m supporting Trump.
Look folks, if you donât vote for Cruz, then you hate Jesus and America.
No worries about that particular one; It was sarcasm without the tag.
Sad that things are so bad around here that you can really believe that someone would say that unironically, eh?
Eh, OK, but people have come pretty close to saying just that!
I here you. I like them both, but I’m going with Trump because I think he has the best chance of winning, and he won’t be faced with the Dems challenging his eligibility in court. We have enough to worry about.
I wish to God, though, that the Donald would grow up a little bit. Even as a supporter, he can be embarrassing.
My only “consolation” is that out little primary in New Mexico is usually held well after the nominee is picked, so nobody can blame me for what happens.
Eh, OK, but people have come pretty close to saying just that!

Oh yeah. I wouldn’t say ‘pretty close,’ though; it HAS gotten that bad. I personally have had one person tell me that I’m going to Hell for not supporting Cruz, another person telling us that God will judge us for liking Trump, and a third just tonight comparing Christian Trump supporters to demons.
But I know of Yashcheritsiy well enough to know that post was sarcasm. Before I saw who posted it, I thought it was unironic too.
