If Donald Trump wins South Carolina, can he be stopped?
The Washington Post ^ | 2/17/2016 | Philip Bump

The other question raised by a Trump victory in South Carolina, though, is why that dynamic would change. In CNN's poll, Trump beats Ted Cruz by a wider margin among evangelical voters than he does among voters overall -- a voting bloc that is supposed to be in Cruz's corner.

(In Iowa, where the majority of Republican voters identified as evangelical, Cruz won evangelicals by 12 points. In South Carolina, Trump leads with them by 20.)

Trump also leads with conservative voters in South Carolina, although by a smaller margin than he leads overall.

If that holds, it's not clear why Trump wouldn't then win most of the other Southern states that make up the March 1 primary, much less most of the other states between now and March 15.

No question. Trump will still have to wage his unorthodox campaign, as the GOPe will try to torpedo him at every step.

The only thing is, they may HAVE to support him to keep the senate.

Stopped by whom? Some of the best options have dropped out of the race. The two closest contenders are not eligible. If not Trump, Bush? Pretty sorry lot, if you ask me.

I agree. Both parties suck on immigration and they both have too many politicians who love trade deals that screw the American people. Those issues need to be dealt with ASAP.

Yes. Any candidate can be stopped at any point right up until the second Tuesday in Nov.

Cruz and Rubio can be stopped by anyone with standing right up until a minute before they’re sworn in due to ineligibility. That’s a guarantee if either of them is up against Hillary.

I’m waiting for Trump to win if Florida and in Texas, then we will hear the outcries.

Why should he be stopped? He’s filling arenas from Massachusetts to Alabam and beyond. People are into his anti illegal, anti refugee, anti Islamic message. As he said in south Carolina, American children are dreamers too.

You forgot when he went on Twitter the next day and announced that Cruz stole his precious, threatened to sue and demanded a do over etc. It was all so presidential.

Trump can’t win South Carolina now. Cruz is out polling him in the WSJ/NBC poll out today.

Congratulations to the Cruz supporters for certain victory in South Carolina in three days.

Ugh I hope not. I really don’t want to have to become a Rubio voter.

Dr. Carson makes the best ideological fit for Trump, and I’d like to see that, but Kasich is the smart choice. With Kasich, Trump probably carries Ohio,. If Trump wins Florida and NY, which I think he will, it’s game over no matter who the democrats nominate.

You’re joking, right? The poll you are referring to is a national poll and has nothing to do with South Carolina.

Just having some fun.

The idea that is an accurate national poll is also a farce.

The Dems figured they could pick him apart based on his term as Speaker of the House, and the situation with his wife. They know that people with a moral base will back off of a candidate who is slimmed by the media. Although he was a great candidate, they kept repeating the mantra so that it stuck.

The same thing is happening now with at least one candidate. Yell loud enough, blow enough smoke, get the media to repeat it enough, and people back off of the candidate.

Thought so given your past posts; just wanted to make sure. Lot’s of folks would have believed you, though.

I find it hard to see how Trump loses if he decisively wins SC. Because don’t forget that 3 days later is the Nevada Caucus which is heavily for Trump too.

What I find both interesting and comical is the number of FReepers, especially those that have been registered for a decade or more, completely and collectively losing their s**t over Donald Trump.

Obama doesn’t get the hate Trump does.
