Brig. Gen. Christopher M. Short, commander of the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, said in an email last month that of 15 pilot applicants for three openings, 14 are white.
He asked fighter wing commanders to stir up more candidates who "don't necessarily look like each of you." He bemoaned the fact that, not only is there a lack of diversity, but the number of applicants to make the world-famous team has taken a puzzling drop in the past two years.
"While we have several qualified candidates that many of you submitted, I am lacking the depth in talent we've seen in previous years and I am lacking in diversity of gender, ethnicity...."

Is this guy related to the General Short who decided to park all the aircraft together at Pearl Harbor, thereby making them easier to destroy all at once? If so, it explains a lot.
I guess Gen. Short wants to repeat the lesson the Navy learned back in the 90s when they pushed an unqualified woman into the cockpit of an F-14 and she couldn’t hack carrier landings. The trouble with doing it with the flight demo team is any error is likely to happen in front of a very large crowd instead of in the middle of a very large ocean.

Some generals aren’t very smart....you choose the best among the applicants....MALE ONLY....we don’t need thunderhens.
You have to motivated them to volunteer before finding out if they can qualify.
Who would you rather be teamed with at 100 feet, 450 knots, canopy to canopy?... a diversity hire who fills all the Diversity Boxes ... or the best stick available?

The SecDef and high ranking Generals and Admirals are totally destroying the US military forces by pushing this insane Obama agenda.
If they had cojones, they would say that the best qualified get the jobs. Or, they should just retire.
The new Prez in 2017 should interview each of the senior officers to determine if they agree with the Obama agenda for the military or not; if they do they should be retired.

Nothing like insulting those being considered.
And to be honest, they also must look good on a recruiting poster.
Seriously.
They are good pilots for sure, but just as good as other fighter pilots.
ALL fighter pilots can do what they do.
More a matter of looking good with good PR skills.
