Ohio lost 112,500 jobs due to trade with TPP countries

Ohio lost 112,500 jobs in 2015 resulting from the United States' trade deficit with countries that are part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, according to an analysis by the Economic Policy Institute.

That places Ohio sixth, in terms of the percentage of jobs lost to trade with TPP countries, among the 50 states and the District of Columbia ranked in the report released Thursday by the liberal Washington, D.C.-based think tank. The lost jobs represent nearly 2.2 percent of employment in Ohio, according to the analysis.

The total number of lost jobs includes those directly and indirectly impacted by the trade deficit with TPP countries. It also includes the number of jobs EPI says would have been created through the multiplier or "respending" effect had trade with those countries been more balanced.

The TPP is a free trade agreement between the United States and 11 partnership countries, including Canada, Mexico, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

Currently there’s an article on Drudge with youtube video of Kasich pledging to submit a comprehensive immigration reform plan that includes a path to citizenship within 100 days of his Administration.

Cruz was making the rounds yesterday explaining how people who don’t like shipping jobs out of the country with these bad trade deals are just low info and don’t understand the deals, and he explained that he will fix everything with a flat tax.

That’s right. The deals are apparently fine, we just need a flat tax to bring all the jobs back.

I know I’m just a knuckle-dragger who isn’t “engaged”, but I’ll go ahead and remain very skeptical about Cruz’s position on these trade deals.

Open borders trade policy is good. Open borders immigration is bad.

Well I wasn’t going to vote for him anyway.

The only guy in the race with an Economics degree running is Donald Trump, and it shows.

I have a friend in the Cleveland who has a booming business, know what the business is?

He has a business that sells used manufacturing equipment from defunct Ohio businesses.

Sad, isn’t it?

Cruz only added his trade mumbo jumbo recently because he is getting creamed on it and is lying for votes in the labor states. What a phony.

Thats a pretty good start, obviously we need to Expand these Trade Deals so all these folks can spend more time with their families and get all their goods much cheaper.

Ohio lost 112,500 jobs in 2015 resulting from the United States’ trade deficit with countries that are part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement

When this article was posted last week we talked about 3 of the falsehood there:

Ohio lost 112,500 jobs in 2015

Actually, in 2015 total non-farm Ohio employment increased by 82,900.

resulting from the United States’ trade deficit

The affect of trade deficits is that employment goes up.   When the trade deficit shrinks people loose their jobs.

You might not believe it or maybe you don't understand it, but it is what it is.

with countries that are part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement

TPP has nothing to do with it.  We're talking about 2015, no TPP.  If anyone thinks Ohio joblessness was caused by not having a TPP, then help is on the way.

Ohio lost over a hundred thousand jobs. The governor wants to grant amnesty to all the illegals. And he’s beating Trump in the polls? The “machine” is out to stop Trump. It proves to me the gop, democrat and media are all together.

It’s time for a third party. If there are really any Tea Party types in congress they should join together to stop the gop.

Do Buckeyes know that? They know Boehner is for Kasich, or do they?

Didn’t Buckeye congressmen support NAFTA, or is that wrong?

Buckeyes may well vote for Kasich; that will further cloud the anti-Trump effort.

Well I am a Buckeye and I don’t know why anyone would vote for the man.

We have had a despot in the White House for nearly 8 years and I don’t care to have another.

Trump is not a great choice but for me I will take a chance on him over a man I already know has no respect for the Constitution.

And if we have a congress that hates the president and does not fear him that might not be a bad thing.

We in Obama had a congress that hated the president but feared him that did not work out so well.

Looks like half of 'em did:
How the Congress voted.

Neither Sentor did (Metzenbaum, Glenn)
How the Senate voted.
