RICHMOND, Va. -- Why?
Why did the shooter open fire as soon as state Trooper Chad P. Dermyer approached him at Richmond's Greyhound bus station?
Why did he keep shooting and fighting till the end, as state police superintendent Col. Steven Flaherty described Thursday night?
Why was he in Richmond?
An official source identified the shooter as 34-year-old James Brown III of Aurora, Illinois.
CBS 6 found a James Brown III., an African-American with a long criminal history in Aurora, whose date of birth matches up with the information from our source.
Brown is well known to police there.
We talked to his aunt in Aurora, Edith Brown, who had helped raise Brown and had allowed him to stay with her until December, when she says she told him he had to leave.
She said, "He always liked the criminal side."
She was upset about what happened, but not surprised.
"He had a lot of anger about the police in the past," she said. "He pretty much thought he wanted to be infamous . . . in terms of having a showdown. He always praised those people who got into shootouts with police."
Court records show James Brown III had been charged with murder, intent to kill, aggravated battery with a firearm, failure to obey police, resisting a corrections officer, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, aggravated battery of an unborn child, numerous drug charges, intimidation, domestic battery, felony possession of a weapon, among many driving charges.
We were unable to obtain a booking photo, and it's unclear how many charges he was ultimately convicted of and imprisoned for over the years.
Edith Brown talked with us by phone as police were on their way to her home to talk about what happened.
She said her nephew vowed that his prison days were over.
"He said he would never go back to prison again," she said. "He would fight it out with them."
James Brown III was declared dead soon after arriving at VCU Medical Center.
Why the hell was he free, roaming around the country, and not locked up or executed already? He'd given every indication he was oriented toward killing cops, not to mention his clear pattern of violent, non-stop predatory behavior...
Well, they are...
Can Bronco Bama pardon the perp posthumously?
Maybe he was one of those Obama had released early from prison?
...and from reports so far this year, they’re on pace to DOUBLE that.
James Brown the third, they were so proud the first time they repeated it twice, dawashana is going to like it in prison with those nice little pig tails
If Pipi Longstocking were a black copkiller.
With all of that in his criminal history, why was he on the streets ?
He’s already been in prison, and said he’d never go back, did you miss the part about him being shot dead?
So, we have a felon. Who should not have a gun, it’s against the law. Crosses state boarders without a permit to conceal, again that’s against the law too. Then shooting a cop and other, oh yeah, against the law too.
Clearly, we need more laws against gun violence. They work so well. /s
Seriously! WTF...monsters like him should just be put down without ceremony and without compunction
Wait until it's discovered that he was let out of prison early on some Judge's order, or some "early release program"......
“Dey be no place lack homie. Dey be no place lack homie.”
In 2015, blacks in Chicago shot an average of 57 people EVERY WEEK.
(I had previously posted this comment on this thread but the moderator didn’t like the nickname I used for Chicago, and deleted my comment. Political correctness trumps everything, you know)
Murders are already up 94% year over year, so just doubling the murder rate isn't going to be difficult.
By this time last year, Chicago Police had already made some 157,000+ "investigatory stops" in Chicago. Thus far, they've made about 20,000 of the same, for the same point in time.
No wonder crime has shot up so dramatically this year huh?
But then, this is what happens when the public and politicians gang-up on the police and criticize every single action that they take due to the bad actions of a very few.
Not surprised here!
Did you call it ChIRAQ by any chance?
I live outside of Chicago, and I call it the Murder Capital of the United States every day.
Because that's exactly what it is.
Some will try and argue "per capita" stats with me thinking that's the argument I'm using, however I'm not.
Based on pure, raw number of murders in Chicago, it leads the country.
Thus my calling it the Murder Capital of the United States. (I do that when I close every amateur radio call I make on air, which prompts people world-wide to look at my QRZ page, for which I've about 10,000 lookups now.)
