After winning the April 5 Wisconsin primary, Ted Cruz appeared to reach out to the GOP establishment and ask for its trust.
It's hard to imagine a more far-right presidential candidate than Cruz, who has shown little to no willingness to appeal to the broader electorate that Republicans arguably need to win the White House and maintain control of the Senate. Some political analysts even think Republicans' majority in the House could be in play with not just a Trump nomination, but also a Cruz nomination.
Here are four reasons that should still worry Republicans -- plus one reason they'd probably prefer Cruz over Trump anyway:
1. Senate Republicans don't like Cruz....
2. Cruz is broadly very unpopular, too...
3. His brand is harder to distance the party from

And the DUMP CRUZ campaign gets launched in the pages of the Washington Post (and also the WSJ)
So the GOPe doesn’t think Cruz is one of them regardless of how loudly Trump folks parrot that he is?
Ya left off the last point...
“BUT. Trump is a complete wildcard; Cruz isn’t.”
“Aside from unannounced weekend work or the occasional government shutdown, they know what they’re getting from Cruz. He is a politician who has demonstrated that he can stick to his principles and navigate politically sticky situations with as much deftness as the next candidate.
Republicans, by contrast, have no idea what they’re getting with Trump. One day he’s suggesting Muslims be banned from the country, the next he’s retweeting a quote from Mussolini, the next his campaign manager is getting charged with battery for allegedly grabbing a reporter’s arm and bruising her.”
Exactly.
The funny thing is, ONE candidate is pulling together a coalition of delegates and supporters.
The other tweets and whines about things being unfair and “stolen”...
Stiletto practice on the back of Ted Cruz.
Exactly. A lot of people are really focused on the actions of the GOPe. As such, they run the very real risk of alienating the entire base, which, it turns out, Jeb did need after all.
Good luck to the GOPe this fall as MILLIONS of the base vote by staying home. You will lose everything except the cold comfort of The Cheap Labor Express.
Including a large number of GOPe "supporters" who are only using Cruz to block Trump and then will turn around and knife Cruz in the back the first chance they get. And Cruz and his supporters are unwilling to acknowledge that salient fact - Cruz is the only chance the GOPe has to regain control of the nomination.
Ted is a beard
And all you can do is attack Trump.
Man you Cruz people are nasty.
Don’t you see they are after you too. Teaming up with them won’t get you the nomination.
Cruz is being used to stop Trump. Then he will be cast aside.
Cruz has his health insurance through Goldman Sachs and they funded his Senate campaign. They completely control him. He’d be happy to keep his Senate seat and his wife’s job. He will go away quietly at the appropriate time.
Even good ole Jimmah Carter claims he'd rather have Trump as Prez than Cruz, stating, Cruz firmly believes what he says, while Trump is "maleable,"
Ted gets a kick out of all the fools underestimating him.
He’s laughing all the way to the White House.
Then they apparently don’t care that they are getting set up. That’s even worse. Cruz’s ambitions are so high that he will go to bed with the devil himself.
“... a large number of GOPe “supporters” who are only using Cruz to block Trump and then will turn around and knife Cruz in the back the first chance they get. And Cruz and his supporters are unwilling to acknowledge that salient fact...”
I’m a supporter of Ted Cruz. Ted is a big boy. He seems intelligent. If he loses after all is said and done I won’t feel bad for him. He sank based on his strategy.
Similarly, if Trump can’t close “the deal” he only has himself to blame. Let’s stop acting like leftists and framing everyone who loses as a victim.
The term would be ‘false friend’, HLPhat.
This is what the Washington Pest Won't Say:
Why DEM nominee Hillary Clinton should worry 2016 Democrats, too
I’ve been trying to tell these fools that the RNC will dump Ted Cruz as soon as he’s served his purpose. To eliminate Donald Trump. Remember Jeb Bush saying he will win the nomination.
Cruz is being used as a tool to deny Trump a first round nomination, period. The GOPe is playing him and he craves the idea so much he doesn’t realize it.
