Newt Gingrich Tops Trump's VP List
Newsmax ^ | May 10, 2016 | John Gizzi

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now the leading candidate to be tapped by Donald Trump as his running mate, a close confidante of Trump tells Newsmax...

Trump is said to favor Gingrich for several reasons.

First, Trump recognizes he is a Washington neophyte and sees in Gingrich someone who can school him in the legislative process and “make nice” with Capitol Hill...

Trump has other reasons he is leaning toward Gingrich. He is said to personally like him. Rubio, Newsmax reported, has already been eliminated though he lobbied through surrogates for the job. Rubio has denied doing so.

On the plus side, the “he can navigate the legislative process” argument is quite valid.

On the other, he’s 72. Trump needs a young, energetic heir apparent who can run in the future and make sure the changes stick.

Gingrich for Chief of Staff would make a lot of sense in that scenario.

I don’t buy these stories reportedly coming from Trump “confidants”. From what I’ve read elsewhere, there aren’t all kinds of unknown “operatives” running around saying things like there are with other candidates.

Sounds good to me; the VP debate would be a rout!

Always loved Newt, but in the old paradigm saw Newt’s personal past as a non-starter.

Trump has flipped the tables of the money changers.

It’s on. I could get behind a Trump/Newt ticket.

Couldn’t he get Newt’s experience working for him by having him serve as Chief of Staff?

I don’t like Newt Gingrich, his ego is keeping the moon in orbit.

Given the ages of both men, we could be looking for a whole new team in 2020

I prefer Gingrich as white house chief of staff and someone trump can groom to take over as next POTUS

I like him, but he’s too old. God forbid if something should happen to Trump, we need someone younger who can step in without age issues.

I imagine rumors of several possible candidates will be floated about until the convention.

A good litmus test to see a reaction, but Gingrich is a good choice IMO, lets see how the public and talking heads react.

I imagine NRO, Kristol, Krauthammer, Gutfeld, Perina and George Will (the usual suspects) will be throwing Newt under the bus over the next couple of days while they apply Preparation H to their butthurt that Mittens is not tops on the list.

I’d like to see Allen West on that short list as well.

No not Newt. The media will be over him about his affair he had.

I would prefer Newton to Kasich or Haley for sure. But Santorum could hold the evangelicals.

“It’s on. I could get behind a Trump/Newt ticket.”

IMHO there are a few better choices but it is not a deal breaker for me. If he chooses Newt so be it. GO TRUMP/NEWT GO
