Report: Romney recruiting Kasich, Sasse for third-party option

Mitt Romney, the GOP’s 2012 nominee, is among those courting prospects for a possible third-party bid to keep Donald Trump from the White House, according to a Washington Post report .

Among those prospects are Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), one of Trump’s most vocal Republican critics, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who suspended his presidential campaign in early May.

Kasich’s chief strategist John Weaver said the governor isn’t interested in running an an independent.

A Sasse spokesman declined to comment.

But it’s not looking to good for a late in the game third-party bid, according to the report.

Deadlines have passed to get on the ballot in big states like Texas, though organizers argue a legal challenge there would be successful.

He is being a jackass now, but this country is being dismantled by Obama. And it will continue through January. As bad as he is, he was still far better than what we have been enduring

Too bad for Mitt that politics doesn't have the equivalent of a beard -- too easy to see that he's a Democrat in all but name. Thanks jazusamo.

And despite this “nice guy” faux image of Romney, recall if you will the attacks he/his campaign staged against the other Repub candidates. Absolutely brutal and vicious. Way out of (perceived) character, it seemed to me at the time and now. He never came close to that kind of acrimony against 0bama.

The result of this would probably be something like: Hillary: 44%, Trump: 40%, and Kasich, 16%. In other words, it would hand victory to Hillary.>>>> no way perot was the only third party on the populist side that won 20%. it would be Trump 51, Hillary 48, Kasick 1.

To have mounted any kind of third party people needed to have started in January. It is really too late to get on the ballot to do anything.

Now if someone wanted to take over the Libertarian Party, that might be doable. They are on the ballot in all 50 states and already set up. Just waiting on a hostile takeover.

Not blaming you, but Perot took 77% of his voters from Bush.

No Perot in ‘92 > no Clinton.

No Clinton in 1992 > no Hillary in 2016.

The idea of a third party run should have died last week.

But I see the article is still dated May 14, 2016.

At least we get to know Romney should be put into a special place apart from anything remotely close to our party, or any official government function.

Simply put, the guy is not to be trusted.

Only IF he thinks the other GOP is not a democrat.

Who from the rat party will have to face the same challenge if Her Thighness quits the race?

Doesn't he have a day job?

Yes, he works for Bain Capital. Bain Capital is a vulture capital firm that buys distressed assets at a severe discount, and sells off pieces in order to make a profit. If rumors are true, then this is a scheme was dreamed up at his day job.

Bain Capital is supposedly heavily invested in Puerto Rican bonds. If Puerto Rico continues to default, Bain Capital will lose a lot of money.

Romney's friend and running mate Paul Ryan has come to the rescue (of Romney) and wrote a Puerto Rican bailout package, which will take taxpayer money and payoff the Puerto Rican debt. Bain Capital will get their investment back from the taxpayers.

Trump has publically stated that he doesn't support a bailout.

Hillary would sign a bailout in a heartbeat in order to "save" Puerto Ricans from heartless republicans who want them to starve to death. So, by entering the race and hopefully taking votes away from Trump, Romney can swing the race to Hillary, get a bailout package passed, and make a lot of money for Bain Capital.
