An example of defending yourself would be taking down somebody who comes at you in a violent manner. An example of escalating would be punching somebody who is walking by you in the face because you don't like something they said.

They want us to respond with violence. It will validate their entire narrative about us. It’s just the “optics” they’re looking for.
I think we’ve been playing it right, thus far. Yea, they may very well cross the line in a very bad way. But it has to be known, in clear and in no uncertain terms, that THEY did it.
I’m not saying the time won’t come. Although I hope it doesn’t. But if it does, then the gloves will come off.

A loaded gun in your car parked 4-6 city blocks away won’t do much good, unarmed self defense training will. When backed up with pepper spray, roll of quarters (for an extra hard fist),a small boot knife or push dagger & the know how to use these items will work wonders especially since the Secret Service won’t let folks with guns into the rallies for obvious reasons.
Block a punch pepper spray maybe a knee to the groin then break contact.
There were many attacks that occurred as people were returning to their cars and some attacked while they were in their cars, but you are right, people need to plan to fight if they attend these rallies.
