Upheaval To Reinvent U.S. Politics

“THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED.” That’s the angry outcry from many Americans as we rush headlong toward the November election. Milton Friedman defined a worthy goal for a society seeking equal opportunity: There should be no arbitrary obstacles blocking people from realizing their ambitions. The angry public sees government overreach as precisely that–an arbitrary obstacle that thwarts their ambitions.

This column has advocated a sweeping government upheaval that would rewrite federal rules in order to limit Washington’s power and redirect it toward growth, security and higher middle-class incomes. Every government department needs to be reinvented and, in most cases, downsized through strong cabinet leadership and oversight. Interactions with Congress need to be transformed. Hundreds of “independent agencies” need to be disbanded or reacquainted with the practice of checks and balances.

Washington hates the idea of an upheaval. The current system is entrenched because it works well for those on the inside, the people who control the outcomes while achieving wealth and status for themselves. Many politicians and former government officials make large fortunes, which is reflected in the capital region’s having the highest per capita income in the nation.

The reasons for this bonanza are clear and demand an upheaval. Washington will soon be spending $4 trillion per year, heading toward $5 trillion, yet it doesn’t have a working budget process or limits on spending and taxation. Instead, power is arbitrary and nearly absolute, a recipe for corruption, mistakes and inequality.

a sweeping government upheaval...Every government department needs to be reinvented and, in most cases, downsized through strong cabinet leadership and oversight...hundreds of “independent agencies” need to be disbanded

This is exactly what Trump's VP needs to be ready, willing, and able to do when he walks into the presidency in 2024 - finish what Trump started.

The author is on the right track although he fails to hit the core legal issue - that most of the central government is unconstitutional. Most cabinet departments need to be DISMANTLED, not reinvented. To his credit he touches on the unconstitutional Administrative State regarding its "agencies" but fails to unequivocally call for the Administrative State and its suffocating and unconstitutional regulations to be dismantled.

He gets off the track later using the false term "crony capitalism" but generally he seems to be on the right track.

If Trump picks Newt for the necessary and effective purpose of assisting the management of negotiations with Congress, then I would suggest that Newt step down in four years and Trump appoint an outsider, preferably a very smart and highly motivated businessman, who in 2014 will step into the presidency ready, willing, and able to dismantle the unconstitutional 80% portion of the $4 trillion government sending hundreds of thousands of government workers, bureaucratic heads and official home packing. Say day for them, but a rebirth of freedom and rejoicing for America.

I pray God will bring about this miracle.

"...an arbitrary obstacle that thwarts their ambitions."

Shouldn't that read...."an unconstitutional obstacle that thwarts their ambitions"?

"Washington will soon be spending $4 trillion per year, heading toward $5 trillion, yet it doesn’t have a working budget process or limits on spending and taxation."

Patriots who might have missed the following note about the annual federal budget as the Founding States had probably meant for it to be understood, will probably find it disturbing.

Regarding $4 and $5 billion dollar annual federal budgets, note that a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that Congress is prohibited from appropriating taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers. This is evidenced by the excerpt below.

”Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” - Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

In fact, based on the Court’s statement above, here is a rough approximation of how much taxpayers should be paying Congress annually to perform its Section 8-limited power duties.

Given that the plurality of clauses in Section 8 deal with defense, and given that the Department of Defense budget for 2015 was $500+ billion, I will generously round up the $500+ billion figure to $1 trillion (but probably much less) as the annual price tag of the federal government to the taxpayers.

In other words, the corrupt media, including Obama guard dog Fx Noise, should not be reporting multi-trillion dollar annual federal budgets without mentioning the Supreme Court’s clarification of Congresss limited power to appropriate taxes in budget discussions.

Remember in November !

Patriots need to support Trump by also electing a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will not only work within its Section 8-limited powers to support Trump’s vision for making America great again for everybody, but will also put a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes and federal interference in state affairs.

Also consider that such a Congress would probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices.

I have been absolutely stunned at how many Freepers NEVER, NEVER, consider that when they try to push their VP pick.

So few have the wisdom you reveal with those few words.

What you are saying and what patriots should note is that 80%+ of those activities and expenditures by the $4 trillion central government is unconstitutional, not authorized by the enumerated powers in Section 8 and elsewhere, even if those expenditures were included in a budget.

The main effort needs to be to dismantle the 80%+ unconstitutional portion of the central government - a seemingly impossible job, but my God is a God of the impossible. He is able and I hope He will make it happen.

In the meantime, the states need to come out of hiding, assert their constitutional sovereignty, and nullify and reject unconstitutional federal acts.

Agreed. The Left is always planning ahead. Time for the Right to plan ahead for once.

"80%+"

80%+++

"In the meantime, the states need to come out of hiding, assert their constitutional sovereignty, and nullify and reject unconstitutional federal acts."

Hypothetically speaking, grade schools need to start teaching students about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers, and associated limited power to appropriate taxes, so that students can go home and teach their parents about those limited powers.

Every government department needs to be reinvented

Stupidity on display here. Every department has to be abolished, ABOLISHED and all the employees paid off with a week's or a month's, no more, pay and terminated. Civil Service has to go out with it. The 17th Amd has to be repealed. And that is a start.

As I posted accompanying this thread, everything clearly unconstitutional must go:

- most cabinet departments

- the Administrative State

- congressmen who won’t constitutionally legislate

He might appoint Newt at first, but at some point, Trump’s VP should be an outsider, preferably a very smart and highly motivated businessman, who in 2024 will step into the presidency ready, willing, and able to dismantle the unconstitutional 80% portion of the $4 trillion government sending hundreds of thousands of government workers, bureaucratic heads and official home packing. Sad day for them, but a rebirth of freedom and rejoicing for America.

In the meantime the states need to wake up, reassert their constitutional sovereignty, and nullify and reject unconstitutional federal acts which by definition are acts of tyranny.
