The officer will not be convicted, but the city be thumped hard in the civil trial.

I have a chl, and have been stopped twice for speeding- once by a City Cop, once by the TX DPS. I know that as soon as they run my plates, they will see the owner of the vehicle (me) has a chl, insurance, valid driver’s license, and current registration.

When I see flashing lights, I roll down my window, pull over in a safe spot, and plant my hands firmly on the steering wheel in a Ten o’clock, Two o’clock position.

When the Officer walks up to my car window, my hands remain firmly on the wheel. I state I have a chl, and await the officer’s instructions.

I think that is probably the protocol in most states with chl’s. I do not believe Mr. Castile followed this protocol.

Another problem is that while the officer thought Philando was an armed robber, he did not request, nor did the dispatcher request additional back-up. That also will doom the city in the civil suit.

There was backup at some point, lots.
It can be seen in Reynolds video as she pans the camera, tons and tons of cops.

What we don't know yet is the time between the stop and everything that happened worth knowing.

You accused him of driving under the influence. He wasn’t driving stupid.

_________________________________________________

I don’t know if he was stupid or not but he was driving. The picture that shows him shot in the car was turned around backwards, he was indeed the driver.

He apparently had a gun in his lap, that is not illegal, even covering it up so the cop won’t see it isn’t illegal if you have a CCW permit and he apparently did. The fact that the address change had not been made was only an administrative mistake.

It is too early to make a judgment about what happened here BUT early indications are that it was a bad shoot. The cop got scared when he saw the gun. The guy had as much right to have the gun as the cop did. I think the guy was kind of stupid to have a gun on his lap and not have his hands in plain sight all the time.

It sounds like he got killed for having a broad nose and a gun on his lap, neither of those things is illegal. I hope evidence comes up to make the cop look like he did the right thing but so far it isn’t looking good.

Actually he was driving—camera made it look like he was passenger, but he was the driver as reported in later reports here on FR.

I’m also pretty certain that the Feds are leaning on the local government and police to not release, at this point, any information that may “inflame” the diverse community, and that “timing is everything”. I’d say the chances that we are now looking at a negative image of the true story are pretty damn good.

I agree with your observation, that this whole incident is being whipped up by those profiting from Leftist propaganda and a quick chance to excoriate racist-Nazi white cops before the rubes find out it was a Mexican guy that shot the late Mr. Castile.

You could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Think about what you are saying. Smoke weed and cops have a right to kill you? Hmmm...Obama smoked pot.

If the police would release dash cam video, we might know. Wonder why they haven’t?

Habitual pot use makes you a prohibited person under federal law, even if pot use is legal under state law.

*** BUT early indications are that it was a bad shoot. ***

I disagree. The reason as a CHL holder I keep my hands firmly on the steering wheel is because I follow the proper procedure for my state because I don’t want to get shot.

and of course, this is all perhaps a tragic event...not one planned...not deliberate...a panic situation when faced with perhaps a perp and that perp has a gun right on his lap....not a good situation....

That’s very commendable. But do you know if Castile was the vehicle RO?

And did the cop who pulled you over suspect an “Armed robbery suspect” was in your the vehicle?

Do you realize it appears very possible the LEOs up in MN made some glaring mistakes of their own here?

“Habitual pot use makes you a prohibited person under federal law, even if pot use is legal under state law

That may be the case if you could prove his pot use was habitual and there was evidence of some type of legal action taken against him regarding that issue.

You should tell the authorities what you, if anything.

The St Anthony police chief had argued against body cameras prior to this incident.

Why aren't cops clamoring for these to protect themselves?
