The manner of speech is the most irritating. So many boys and even young men in their 20s use uptalk. They sound like Valley girls.

Good point, but I don't know which is more irritating -- this uptalk or the gay "lithp" -- grown men (?) deliberately speaking as if they had a speech impediment or their tongue were permanently fused to the roof of their mouth. Drives me crazy.

Reminds me of my college days as a drama major. Not surprisingly, the drama dept was full of gays (and lots of cute girls for the guys who weren't). If a young incoming freshman was heard to say "I'm not really sure whether I'm gay or straight", w'd say to each other "we're sure - you're gay."
