STUTTGART, Germany Special agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating the theft of guns and other military equipment from a base arms room in Stuttgart, military officials said.
Several semi-automatic pistols, one small-caliber automatic rifle and a shotgun were among the items taken, said Chris Grey, a CID spokesman.
The Army did not identify all the items stolen or the unit targeted, citing the active investigation. A possible breach of the base fence is also part of the ongoing probe.
We are looking at all possibilities as the investigation continues, but at this point in the investigation it does not appear that an outside entity stole the firearms and equipment or breached the fence line, but we have not completely ruled it out, Grey said.
A military official who was not authorized to speak to the media said that the site was Panzer, which also is home to elite units such as Army Green Berets and Navy SEALs, as well as the garrisons headquarters.
The break-in, which occurred earlier this month, comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Germany in the wake of a wave of high-profile terrorist attacks. These include the July 23 suicide bombing in Ansbach by a Syrian migrant who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group and the July 19 attack by an Afghan refugee, also claiming allegiance to the group, on a group of tourists on a train in Wuerzburg.

Once you say a breach in the security fence occurred....then it’s NOT an inside job and the German cops are going to ask stupid questions about the security of each arms vault that the Army maintains. Just based on the journalist story....I’d say that someone put a good bit of effort into getting into the place....but didn’t take a large assortment of weapons....probably one single guy.
They are all classified as fully automatic AK-47s.
Why would we bother to say semi-automatic pistols? To make it sound bad?
“And other military equipment from the arms room”
Ummmmm....what kinds of other military equipment?

What the heck, when I was in the USMC we pulled guard duty protecting the “arms room” (armory) 3 Marines 2 inside and one outside walking post. Nobody stole a damn thing.
Armories are actually pretty damned hard to get into. It’s a matter of: Inside Job? Or perhaps, were locks left unsecured? Did the thief have oxy-acetylene cutting equipment, concrete saw, etc? That would make a lot of noise. Duty officers are supposed to make their rounds on a frequent basis, checking supply buildings, Intel vaults, et cetera. This ain’t looking good.
My first guess would be night vision goggles.
Exactly.
So when it’s an M-4 stolen from the military it’s a “small caliber automatic rifle”, but when it’s an AR-15 with a 30 round mag in the hands of a 2nd amendment supporter it’s a “weapon of war”, ok, got it.
uh....they said “possible breach”, still investigating.
Hard to believe that any arms room on foreign soil is easily breached from the outside, much less a base that houses spec-ops groups as the article states.
But then again, this is the Obama New Model Army.
You’d even be in a world of sh** for leaving your wall locker unsecured.
In future articles about firearms, save the journalists any explanation about the firearms, and just say it was a fully automatic AK-47. It makes their job so much easier and they can get back to their latte or frappe bar.
Unless it was a suppressed 22rf.
This happened at Panzer Kaserne in Boebling. I was stationed there 72-74. The arms room in our building was a heavy steel door. Any hammering would have been heard by the troops living in the same building. Probably is an inside job.
“Why would we bother to say semi-automatic pistols? To make it sound bad?”
Probably to differentiate from the “automatic” weapons including full-auto “machine pistols” (MP5, Skorpion, etc) that the SpecOps might have. What the “other military equipment” might be is anyone’s guess.
Probably.
Getting into an arms room is a hard thing to do.
Breaking in to steal pistols and night vision equipment? Seems like a lot of work for a small payoff.
Wasn’t there a breakin at an arms room here in the States not that long ago?
Fast and Furious II?
