Tim Cook will mark his five-year anniversary as the CEO of Apple by doing something that his predecessor Steve Jobs typically avoided: hosting a fundraiser for a presidential candidate.
On Wednesday, Cook and Lisa Jackson, Apple's (AAPL, Tech30) head of environmental initiatives, will host an event in California to raise money for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. Those invited have reportedly been asked to contribute as much as $50,000.
Cook is just the latest in a growing list of tech executives and venture capitalists working to raise big money to help Clinton beat Donald Trump, who has repeatedly attacked tech companies and opposes the industry on key issues like immigration and trade.
Salesforce (CRM, Tech30) CEO Marc Benioff, Google (GOOG) CFO Ruth Porat, Zynga (ZNGA) chairman Mark Pincus, Napster founder Sean Parker, SolarCity (SCTY) CEO (and Elon Musk's cousin) Lyndon Rive and LinkedIn (LNKD, Tech30) founder Reid Hoffman have all contributed or raised at least $100,000 for Clinton's bid.
That's according to a lengthy list of top fundraisers, dubbed "Hillblazers," put out by the campaign.
The list also includes tech investors like Brook Byers, a founding partner of Kleiner Perkins, and Chamath Palihapitiya, an early Facebook (FB, Tech30) exec.
Even Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple's late apolitical founder, is there.

Not too surprising. Hillary Clinton is for sale, Trump is not.
ANY company dealing in international politic that picks sides can get severely burned if that side loses.
From an IT perspective Trump’s position on forcing IT designers to provide back doors for government is not a way to win friends. I support Trump DESPITE that position. HRC might have a similar position, but she hasn’t been vocal about it, and she might be able to be bought.

Hillary has planned Chinese communist style crackdowns on websites and blogs that have spoken out against her. The silicon valley leftists were behind much of that, selling software to the reds to crack down on dissenters.

The India/China Cheap Labor Express will keep rolling through Silicon Valley when Hillary rules. By the way, another 4000 U.S. workers are being laid off in the tech industry. Hopefully, the Chinese will copy everything Apple designs and will sell it 70% cheaper. Then the consumer will be able to enjoy that cheap labor for a change, instead of paying Apple’s insane mark-ups.
