the overwhelming Logic of Hispanics for Trump
The overwhelming logic of Hispanics for trump ^ | 25 August 16 | Peter Navarro

Posted on 08/25/2016 12:00:48 PM PDT by vooch

By Peter Navarro Special to the Las Vegas Review-Journal In 1993, First Lady Hillary Clinton lobbied for the North American Free Trade Agreement and her husband signed it. At the time, the Clintons promised NAFTA would create 200,000 new jobs. Instead, NAFTA has destroyed more than 850,000 American jobs while the U.S. trade deficit in goods has rocketed from near zero to $60 billion annually.

The even bigger failure of the Clinton NAFTA deal, however, has been its tremendous negative impact on Mexico itself and Hispanics on both sides of the border. While tens of thousands of U.S. manufacturing jobs went south under NAFTA, a flood of agricultural products from the United States put tens of thousands more Mexican farmers on the unemployment line — even as NAFTA raised corn prices and sent 20 million Mexicans into a life of “food poverty.”

It was precisely this body blow from NAFTA to the Mexican agricultural belt that helped trigger a mass migration on the Coyotaje train to El Norte, destroying families and farming towns throughout Mexico in the process.

That’s the ultimate irony of NAFTA: It was supposed to help both Mexico and the United States but it wound up tearing down the U.S. economy and tearing apart a large chunk of Mexican society. And this all happened because Bill and Hillary Clinton didn’t know a good trade deal from a bad one.

Navarro is right about the effect of U.S. exports of cheap corn to Mexico. Millions of subsistence level Mexican corn farmers are now here.

Hispanics who have been here since Spanish colonial times, or who went through all the legal channels to become citizens, have more interest than anyone in keeping out masses of the sort of people and ingrained Latin corruption they and their ancestors escaped. The ones who are supporting Trump are simply those intelligent enough to have thought that through. They bear a kinship with the Tejanos who died alongside Americans at the Alamo.

It was precisely this body blow from NAFTA to the Mexican agricultural belt that helped trigger a mass migration on the Coyotaje train to El Norte, destroying families and farming towns throughout Mexico in the process.

Not only was the giant sucking sound of manufacturing jobs leaving the US predicted during the NAFTA debate, but also the destruction of large numbers of small, Mexican farms and the resulting flight of hundreds of thousands more Mexicans to the US illegally.

It was all foreseen by those paying attention and with average knowledge and average intelligence, but the know-it-all superiors promised NAFTA would open new markets for US products and create hundreds of thousands of new manufacturing jobs in the USA.

NAFTA was pushed through on lies and its supporters still lie claiming it has been a positive for the US.

I’m from one of those old Spanish families-AKA Tejanos.

I grew up on a small family ranch in remote SW Texas-like most from families who bought and sold livestock and other stuff on both sides of the border, we learned Spanish as a 2nd language in early childhood. Ranchers and other small business owners on this side sold, bought, traded with small ranchers on the other side, and trucked goods back and forth-it was all easily done, reasonably priced and safe-no narco mafia, no kidnapping and ransom demands, etc-but that was pre-NAFTA-now it is all changed for the worse-small rural ranch/trucking operations like my family’s only haul local cartage now because of the high new fees and ruinous regs-and there is precious little to be hauled anyway.

My family votes GOP-and no, we do not have any use for mojados, their coyotes-who are part of the narco mafia, etc. If we elect Trump and get rid of these awful trade agreements, I believe both the bleeding of jobs and the flood of illegals will be stopped-after awhile, economies on both sides will right themselves again, making commerce safe and affordable again for even the smallest family ranch or other business on both sides of the border...

Thank you for your history and observation. My uncle lives in Midland and it always a pleasure to visit him there. NAFTA was big news in Berkeley when discussed in the early 1990’s. Sad how political correctness blocks sound judgment. NAFTA is a mess. Even Ralph Nader knew it was horrible. The damage of NAFTA to the old style small ranchers is tragic and sad.

The area I now live in is much the same as where I grew up-just further from the border-the pain is here, too-even the tourists for the guest ranches, roadside markets, restaurants and bars don’t come any more-and the snowbirds from the N. US and parts of Canada who rented cabins and RV spaces for the winter from locals have felt the economic pinch-the numbers started dropping off in 2009 and it has not let up-empty cabins and spaces, closed up small riverside taverns, canoe rental places etc-it sucks, but since most of us are natural food types who garden, keep chickens, etc we do have an excellent barter system-we may be trashy and broke, but we’ll be healthy and not starve...

Saw the fella on Fox. He is one fat Mexican.

Are you referring to the author of the article, Peter Navarro, professor of economics at UC-Irvine?
