Obama’s Arc of History

President Obama enjoys quoting or paraphrasing Martin Luther King, Jr.’s remark that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”

Like his oft-repeated phrase that his political opponents are “on the wrong side of history,” the statement suggests Obama’s view that real-world events will ultimately shift to what he thinks they ought to be, regardless of his own actions.

As chaos both domestic and abroad has shown, there is more to be done to influence the course of events than to dispense platitudes.

As usual, King borrowed. I think it was Theodore Parker who said it and I think he got it from Assisi who probably got it from some Greek or Roman philosopher.

Obama’s only and lasting legacy is that he left the nation in worst shape than he began.

Obama’s only and lasting legacy is that he purposely left the nation in worst shape than he began.

Fixed it.

The Book of Revelation tells us that Obama’s side will eventually lose. The path from here to there may be ugly, but good will triumph in the end.

Justice, social or of just plain blind lady of justice, neither of which remain in the US as with God from a government perspective, does not demand that one person born white and male be discriminated against. If indeed the arc is long, what goes round comes round. Someday in America blacks will be equal to whites, males equal to females, and no gender or racial preference will be needed, by the individual or the government. The pursuit of life, liberty and justice simply means that all men being created equal, none should be discriminated against. Prior to 1865, the equality of blacks are humans was not universally accepted in the USA, and in Islam they are still less equal, less human.

Where in Revelation? Eventually, but it will be a living hell to endure until then.

The universe is indeed a moral one (which is why some acts can be denounced as immoral), and true justice ultimately will indeed prevail.

The difference between his view and your view is that ... persons ... like Obama believe that justice will come from human government, not Divine Judgment.
