The Left is Busily Planting Fake Red-Meat Conservative News Sites
The Stream ^ | August 31, 2016 | Rachel Alexander

Almost all of us have been a victim of accidentally spreading fake news at one time. A trusted friend emails you a link to an article that is red meat for the conservative base; it sounds legitimate, and the name of the site even sounds official. You forward the article and post it on Facebook and Twitter — and then the backlash is embarrassing. Multiple people point out you’re wrong, and you feel like an idiot. But how were you to know, especially in this information overload, social media era? It has become normal to quickly skim articles and headlines. And why would you suspect your most trusted, intelligent friends would be sending you false news?

By posting these outlandish tales, the sites attract many page views, which allows them to make money from advertisers. Even more nefarious, some are run by Democrats in order to make conservatives look like radical extremists. The strategy, an insider told me, is to fool so many conservatives into spreading a ridiculous, fake article that finally a prominent elected official falls for it. Then the left pounces on the official and makes them look foolish and/or an extremist.

As I’ve written previously, putting out heroic stories about Donald Trump that turn out to be false doesn’t help Trump when people discover they are false.

Some of the worst offenders are sites that rip off names from legitimate conservative news sites. World News Daily Report is a typical example. It sounds very similar to the conservative site WorldNetDaily, which recently renamed itself to WND. The disclaimer on the site says nothing about the news being fake; instead, it disingenuously states that the site is not responsible for inaccurate information.

I fact check anything I read on the net. It’s simpler that way.
I hope you don't use Snopes for that.

I’d add “getoffthebs.com” to that list...

Twisting the news so it fits a pro-Trump profile doesn’t suddenly make an article “real news”...

It makes us look like idiots when we post links to them...

Well, now it just looks stupid that we fell for it but,

the Thread was “Live: Trump for President rally in Everett WA 8/30”

where someone named Dan posted that DeWayne Wade had just endorsed Trump.

So, Trust, But Verify, that Red Meat you’re feasting on. You might not know what it really is, or where it actually came from, or what it’s true purpose is.

There is nothing the left won’t do to try to sink Trump. That alone should tell you something.

I have heard that the owners are a husband and wife team that are leftists and not to be trusted. That came from someone that looked into them. Don't know if that means anything or not but that's what I heard. I haven't looked into it myself so I don't know if it's true or not. Someone else on here probably knows.

Here's some decent info on the owners of www.snopes.com that appears to be enlightening:

Snopes replies too fast to things to be anything other than a liberal censorship tool. They do not take enough time to properly research anything, they have written explanations way too fast when some new information or current event and interpretations come up.

I’m in the investigations field myself. I have to find at least 2 credible witnessses / sources on any information I confirm and often it’s more. If I get it wrong people can end up being prosecuted in court or get sued civily so I have a vested interest in making sure my info is documented and accurate. Having people that say they are verifying facts on places like www.snopes.com with no formal training, prior experience, or vetting is not a good thing if they are supposed to be verifying if information is true or not. Being Democrats you know they are biased so they may just saying anything damaging about their own kind is false. I wouldn’t use them as a source for confirmation for that reason alone.
