It's been there since Thursday night. Much speculating on it here already. After four days, it's gotten kind of silly and irrelevant.
However, it's clear that Drudge inserted it there on purpose for some odd reason. If you examine the HTML source code, it's in there so that it appears in the left top corner of the page. Most people that see it probably think they have a speck of dust on the screen..

Never heard about this until a few days ago.
Looking at the site source, it looks more like a typo: a stray character that got typed outside of the HTML tags. It’s almost too small to be noticed, and not located somewhere that it breaks something.
