The breathtaking sadness of seeing a boy suffering amid Syria's civil war has prompted a breathtaking offer of hospitality and kindness.
The sight of shell-shocked 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh, who was wounded in an airstrike in Aleppo, left many people speechless last month. It also prompted a New York boy named Alex to write to President Obama with a simple request: "Can you please go get him" so Omran can become part of Alex's family?

"We will give him a family and he will be our brother," Alex wrote. "Catherine, my little sister, will be collecting butterflies and fireflies for him. In my school, I have a friend from Syria, Omar, and I will introduce him to Omar. We can all play together."

You will have to give up Christmas Easter and all your religious holidays and symbols so you do not offend your brother- and geez I sure hope you are not Jewish or have any friends or neighbors who are Jewish

The breathtaking sadness of seeing American widows and widowers and children weeping after their loved ones were slaughtered by jihadi fruitbaskets more than offsets the minimal empathy I feel for some Syrian refuse ... er, I mean refugee ... who’s stuck in a mess that’s been going on for millennia.
I have a lot more sympathy for Bob and Mary and Junior than I do for little Mohammed, if for no other reason than it’s unlikely Bob or Mary or Junior is going to infiltrate Mohammed’s homeland and kill him.
