Sinking Trump Puts GOP House At Risk; Markets Aren't Worried, Yet
Investors Business Daily ^ | 10/10/2016 | JED GRAHAM

Donald Trump's latest campaign turmoil hasn't just hurt his own chances for election, but it also appears to be hurting Republican chances of retaining control of the House of Representatives and Senate.

The PredictIt market shows that the odds that Democrats will retake the House have jumped to 27%, up from 15% on Friday. Now the PredictIt market sees just a 39% chance the GOP will win at least 50 Senate seats and just 17% odds that they'll win 51 seats, enough to potentially block a tiebreaking vote by Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton's running mate.

Meanwhile, the latest prices show Trump's odds of winning the White House have slipped to 18%, down from 27% on Thursday, before news media unearthed a decade-old tape of the GOP standard-bearer speaking about women in a way that required warnings for adult content. Trump's odds briefly rose above 20% after Sunday night's debate in which he appeared to staunch some of the bleeding and quieted talk that he might drop out, leaving Mike Pence at the top of the ticket...

...A Democratic sweep is still a long shot, so markets won't react to a noticeable extent unless GOP prospects for holding the House continue to worsen. Yet Trump has unquestionably put Republican candidates in a bind: If they renounce support for him, they risk a backlash from Trump's die-hard supporters. Yet a continued embrace of Trump, even a halfhearted one, may risk the loss of support among moderates.

House Speaker Paul Ryan didn't go so far as to renounce his support for Trump on Monday but said he wouldn't campaign with him or defend him, focusing strictly on the battle for Congress. Trump was quick to lash out via Twitter...

“Trump is finished” type headlines and “Trump is over” as the introductory lead in to any article has now been established as the final propaganda strategy utilized by the MSM/Democrat party.

It's OUR fault if we won't vote for anyone who doesn't respect the will of their party's voters? Who knew?

Not just the HOR. In OH, when Senator Portman thought the coup was successful he said he'd vote for Pence. Whole lot of Deplorables have had it with him. He might still pull it off; the dem "competition" is so flawed.

Sinking? Even the Washington Post shows Trump’s numbers rising.

Also... I made the mistake of clicking the article link — they should spend less time on spammy pop-ups and click bait and focus on improving their journalism instead.

Just the latest slant on the thoroughly-documented inside-the-beltway elitism.

Another twist on, “If we don’t keep the government with the professionals, we’ll all be sunk.”

The backstabbing Establishment Ryno led Republicans are the ones putting the House/Senate at risk, not Trump. If they said “damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead”, anything to keep ILLary out of the WH, I believe Trump would win.

IF ILLary wins, which would be by some measure due to their treachery, I don’t think it much matters if we’ve got the House/Senate .... the Repubs have laid down & rolled over for Obama ... they’ll do worse for ILLary.

What a load of crap. The House and Senate may be in jeopardy but that’s because of the deceit and infidelity of Ryan and his fellow turncoats...not Trump.

“final propaganda strategy”

Well stated!! There is still time enough that the media cannot maintain its feigned ignorance of the WikiLeaks details and the Project Veritas video info. This will begin to penetrate the public consciousness, IMO. The strategy you have called out may be their version of war-planning in the Fuehrer Bunker in April 1945.

A GOP congress might help Trump advance some important conservative goals. Or maybe not.

A GOP congress won’t stand up to Hillary.

So without Trump, it doesn’t matter.
