Why Donald Trump and his supporters want you to think protests against him are manufactured
Washington Post ^ | November 14, 2016 | Phillip Bump

One out of every 40 people in America lives in New York City. The area's population is 8.4 million, more than in 39 other states. For every vote cast for Donald Trump in the city last Tuesday, more than four were cast for Hillary Clinton; she earned 79 percent of the vote.

In the wake of Trump's victory, thousands of protesters crowded the streets of Manhattan (where Trump got fewer votes than he did on Staten Island, where the population is a third smaller) outside Trump Tower. It's hard to know how many were there, but let's assume it was 5,000 people. That would mean that a fraction of a percent of the city took time to ride the train in and make their voices heard, assuming no one came in from anywhere else. Protests of thousands of people in New York really aren't that uncommon, which could have been a reasonable thing to point out if you wanted to brush the event away.

That's not the angle that Trump and his supporters took. Instead, the president-elect and his backers decided to dismiss the protests in New York and other cities — cities that contain hundreds of thousands of people who mostly voted against Trump — as being the work of “paid protesters.” In a tweet, Trump decided that the “professional protesters,” in his formulation, were also “incited by the media,” which doesn't make much sense.

Thanks...you can tell by looking at the pictures, but if you are there and see the forest of signs in person, it sticks out to you like a sore thumb.

You see a forest of yellow and black, or red and black, or whatever, and you say “Geez, did anyone out there even give a single thought to what they were standing for...or did someone just tell them what to think?

I will say, the conservative signs were far more pithy, witty, entertaining, and just put together and created with a greater degree of quality.

In the one picture of my post, one can see the sign “Bongs, not Bombs” and I had to admit, even though it was poorly made, it was at least an original thought.

The absolute filth from liberal protesters is appalling. (filth from their discarded trash. What comes from their brains, out of their mouths and from the smell of their bodies is a matter for another time)

When I went to the protests, they would leave food wrappers, discarded signs, water and soda bottles, clothes, and even used and dirty diapers all over the place. Disgusting.

In contrast, the conservatives would police any areas they stayed in (someone would enlist people to willingly help, but it was just as often spontaneous) and when there wasn’t a specific area, conservatives deposited their trash right at the receptacles, even if they were overflowing, and would neatly pile the trash around it. I took a picture of one that I saw that was remarkable, but can’t put my finger on it. The difference was stark, and remarkable.

I admit to being completely baffled that the connections to these organizations don’t reach a wider audience.

Most Americans don’t understand George Soros or the Ford Foundation. And they most certainly don’t understand The Black Lives Matters group.

Most people don’t know it, but would be shocked to know that over 130 million dollars has been given to the Black Lives Matter group since August 2016 by Soros-run groups, and the Ford Foundation.

They might reasonably ask “What does an organization like Black Lives Matters need with $130 million in funds?

Bill Whittle, who is a conservative voice who I admire and support, is of the opinion that it pays for “street muscle” for the left.

That makes a lot of sense to me. $130 million buys a lot of bus charters signs, and “other things”, including “fees” and “gratuities”.

But, hey. That is how they roll. Here was a list of communist front groups last updated in 1959, and most Americans wouldn’t have known what they were, and likely even gave money to them when asked:

Abraham Lincoln Brigade April 29, 1953
Abraham Lincoln School April 29, 1953
Action Committee to Free Spain Now April 29, 1953
Alabama People’s Educational Association April 29, 1953
American Association for Reconstruction in Yugoslavia April 29, 1953
American Christian Nationalist Party April 29, 1953
American Committee for European Worker’s Relief April 29, 1953
American Committee for protection of Foreign Born April 29, 1953
American Committee for the Settlement of Jews in Birobidzhan Inc September 28, 1953
American Committee for Yugoslav Relief, Inc. April 29, 1953
American Committee To Survey Labor Conditions in Europe July 15 1953
American Council for a Democratic Greece
American Peace Crusade
American Polish League
Black Dragon Society
Cervantes Fraternal Society
Committee to Abolish Discrimination in Maryland
Committee to Aid the Fighting South
Committee to Defend the Rights and Freedom of Pittsburgh’s Political Prisoners
Committee for a Democratic Far Eastern Policy
Committee for Constitutional and Political Freedom
Committee for the Defense of the Pittsburgh Six
Committee for Nationalist Action
Committee for the Negro in the Arts
Committee for Peace and Brotherhood Festival in Philadelphia
Committee for the Protection of the Bill of Rights
Committee for World Youth Friendship and Cultural Exchange
Committee to Defend Marie Richardson
Committee to Uphold the Bill of Rights
Congress of African Women
Dai Nippon Butoku Kai
Daily Worker Press Club
Detroit Youth Assembly
Elsinore Progressive League
Families of the Baltimore Smith Act Victims
Federation of Greek Maritime Unions
Florida Press and Education League
Freedom Stage, Inc.
Friends of the Soviet Union
Garibaldi American Fraternal Society
German American Bund
Harlem Trade Union Council
Hellenic-American Brotherhood
Hungarian Brotherhood
Independent Socialist League
Industrial Workers of the World
Japanese Association of America
Jewish Community of Cortlandt
Jewish Culture Society
Knights of the White Camelia
Labor Youth League
League of American Writers
Mario Morgantini Circle
Michigan Council for Peace
Michigan School of Social Science
Nanka Teikoku Gunyudan
Oklahoma League for Political Education
People’s Educational and Press Association of Texas
Shinto Shrines
Virginia League for People’s Education

When you look at most of them, the name seems...like something you might support...who would be against the “Committee for Constitutional and Political Freedom”?

That would be absolutely un-American!

Two points:

1) I have a game now where I guess from the headline whether the article will be from the WaPo/NYT. I’m doing well.

2) The author seems completely unaware of the concept of “useful idiots.” Of course, Soros et al aren’t going to pay 5000 protesters. He only has to pay a few hundred. The rest are idealistic darlings who follow like lemmings.

And the police determined who had registered to vote.

I wonder...

...just WHY would this be a police matter?

...just WHY would this be a police matter?

It wasn't. A local TV Station (KGW/NBC 8) did the investigation.

Excellent analysis, RL. Thanks for pinging me to it.

The left can deny it all they want, but these anti-Trump riots are not organic or spontaneous in any way.

The conservatives were largely self-transported with individually manufactured signs.

I had a similar experience in Tallahassee in 2000.

It was the night that Harris was going to release the official totals of the Florida recount. There were around 250 Freepers, and 3 Gore supporters.

Do you think the report read like this? No. Every reporter (print, TV news, photographer) went to the Gore supporters for an interview. We heckled the reporters. I was even told to keep quite because I was disrupting the interview. The next day, the pictures in the papers and on web sites showed a big crowd with the Gore supporters in front. It looked like a huge Gore crowd (except for my daughter, who slipped in the bottom of one of the pics with her Sore Loserman sign.

Earlier in the evening, 5 bus loads of protestors drove up. They unloaded and were handed pre-printed signs. Leaders told them what to say and they practice their chants prior to moving into the protest area.

Afterwards, they dutifully loaded back into the buses. Total time at the protest? Less than 30 minutes.

Hahahahaha! That's awesome!

I have come to the conclusion that your description is typical. If there is one thing in particular that I identify with Trump is, it is his dislike and distrust of the media.

I think it is wholly justified.

Great job on that. Bookmarked.

They will doggedly stay within that framework regardless of facts and logic, ...

Which is why I have no interest in confronting or discussing anything with the garden variety liberal.

Thanks, TE.

I have always divided liberals into thirds:

The first third are the “feel gooders”, and uninformed useful idiots. Some of these can be reasoned with, some can be informed, and some have their hearts in the right place, but are wrong. Some are just ignorant and stupid. All useful idiots.

The second third are the dedicated liberals with fevered brows, heads chock-full of leftist dogma, spittle on their lips. They are the foot soldiers of the Left, marching unknowingly, unlearningly, and unheedingly into the machine guns of facts. These people are dogmatic idiots who know all the party lines and recite them like bleating sheep. “Four legs good, two legs bad...” ect. These people cannot be redeemed without a life changing event on their side (like a mugging) or...they simply get older and wiser...they grow up. Some then drop into the previously mentioned third, and some become conservative.

The last third are fully invested and view the other two thirds of liberals as idiots to be used. Obama, Hillary, Ted Kennedy, etc. They are evil Alinskyites in my eyes, have contempt for the people they use, and understand liberalism isn’t about getting health care for people or protecting the environment, or whatever. They understand liberalism is all about power and control over others. That is what they know. These are the people we will go to war against if it ever comes to that.
