Democratic presidential electors revolt against Trump
The Politico ^ | November 22, 2016 | Kyle Cheney

At least a half-dozen Democratic electors have signed onto an attempt to block Donald Trump from winning an Electoral College majority, an effort designed not only to deny Trump the presidency but also to undermine the legitimacy of the institution.

The presidential electors, mostly former Bernie Sanders supporters who hail from Washington state and Colorado, are now lobbying their Republican counterparts in other states to reject their oaths — and in some cases, state law — to vote against Trump when the Electoral College meets on Dec. 19.

Even the most optimistic among the Democratic electors acknowledges they're unlikely to convince the necessary 37 Republican electors to reject Trump — the number they'd likely need to deny him the presidency and send the final decision to the House of Representatives. And even if they do, the Republican-run House might simply elect Trump anyway.

But the Democratic electors are convinced that even in defeat, their efforts would erode confidence in the Electoral College and fuel efforts to eliminate it, ending the body’s 228-year run as the only official constitutional process for electing the president. With that goal in mind, the group is also contemplating encouraging Democratic electors to oppose Hillary Clinton and partner with Republicans in support of a consensus pick like Mitt Romney or John Kasich....

Do they not realize that they'd need a constitutional amendment to get rid of the electoral college?

Even if these idiots got their constitutional amendment to eliminate the electoral college, They’d STILL lose the election. What makes these people think that they would win a simple majority vote if the candidates were actually campaigning to win it?

Don’t they understand that they’re claiming victory in a game that nobody was playing?

If these are in states where Hillary won, changing their votes won’t matter. Further, they’d have to get a lot from several states to make this happen.

If for some reason they are successful, they will be responsible for bringing war to the streets of this country.

If for some reason they are successful, they will be responsible for bringing war to the streets of this country.

They should be the first victims.

Their actions are far beyond the pale of acceptable behavior on ANY level except corruption.

The overwhelming majority of the extra votes that gave Clinton the “popular vote” came from California. SO those morons want one state — really two metroplexes, Los Angeles and San Francisco — to decided our presidential elections? The stupidity of the Left continues to astound.

Democratic presidential electors are revolting? True, but that is because they have repulsive personalities. But what is the effect otherwise?

They were not going to switch their votes to Trump, now were they? If not, then they have no possible effect on the outcome. They cannot TAKE any votes from Trump, unless they were already pledged to the Republican ticket. But then, how would have they gotten onto that slate to begin with?

Rather than eliminate it, it should be required by the states to let each district vote for 1 elector rather than winner take all.

After the Electors vote, the vote is recorded and sent to Congress. Here, the House of Representatives verify the results and make them official.

However, that verification is not a rubber-stamp! The House can reject individual votes.

So this changes nothing.

However, bet the Left-wing media and democrats (same thing) would use it to “prove” how undemocratic the House Republicans are, and beat the drum about “stolen electoral votes” for years to come. That still won’t change the outcome of the election, but will further harm the country and erode the government, which they don’t give a f$%# about as long as they get to be in charge and tell the rest of us what to do.

It’s that simple. They’re not about the will of the people and the method of government we’ve had since 1787, but about being in charge and getting their way.

The Electoral College is one of the most important provision ever put into the Constitution. It prevents tyranny of the majority, particularly when the majority represents a comparatively small geographical portion of America (cities), and is overly representative of a specific way of life (i.e. urban). Why should people in Manhattan determine what regulations and tax burdens farmers in Iowa are likely to have?

How would these people who advocate doing away with the Electoral College feel about doing away with the Supreme Court, and having all decisions made by popular vote?
