I can't stand deviation from the original.

Video and reactions at the link. You may need to a vacation day to get through the video.

I would not wish to watch this. I love Aretha Franklin, but there is no way in hell I would listen to an endless Anthem.

It can’t be nearly as long as Bleeding Gums Murphy’s version

If I’m going to listen to a long version of a song, the National Anthem is fine with me.

Agreed. I heard it as I passed the TV and found it bordering on insulting. I had to ask if it was the Star Spangled Banner. Horrible performance, and I rather dislike departures from the original, myself

I’m taking a brief break from my NFL boycott to watch the NFC North first-place Lions play the 2nd place Vikings.

I missed Aretha, but I liked the fact that the halftime show featured the Lions’ new babe-a-liscious cheerleaders! (Yeah, and some Andy Grammar singer guy... who cares....at least he wasn’t vulgar....)

I agree. I can’t stand those “customized” renditions of the Star Spangled Banner. All those “look at mes”

Detroit is where it all started with Jose Feliciano during the 68 World Series.

no point in continuing to interpret it after Hendrix’s definitive performance. Just replay the tape.

Couldn't agree more. It's not THEIR song or THEIR rendition. It's the National Anthem, period. Sing it the way it was written. It's not about YOU.

Best comment: That was longer than the Vikings’ Time of Possession in the first half.
