Congress reacts to Trump's 'Mad Dog' Mattis pick
The Washington Examiner ^ | December 1, 2016 | Anna Giaritelli

The Senate Armed Services chair vowed to help move Mattis through the upper chamber's confirmation process. McCain, who will chair Mattis's confirmation hearing, told the Washington Examiner that he would write the bill to grant Mattis a waiver of the seven-year rule.

Not all lawmakers agreed on that Thursday night. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., a former Hillary Clinton supporter, said she is against changing that rule in order to accommodate Mattis.

"While I respect Gen Mattis's service, I oppose a waiver-civilian control of our military is a fundamental principle of American democracy," Gillibrand tweeted.

the waiver isn’t required, because the infringement upon the president’s authority to nominate whomever he chooses is almost certainly unconstitutional

congress will probably go ahead and approve the waiver, but it’s totally unnecessary.

Does this idiot realize Mattis is a civilian now?

Gillibrand is such a hack. She probably doesn’t remember George Marshall: General of the Army, then Defense Secretary under Harry Truman.

Another liberal harpy trying to make a name for herself. She is stupid, uninformed, and ignorant. But she is a liberal.

Dumbass b*tch doesn’t seem to understand Mattis is out of uniform and he is a civilian.

Democrats seems to be brain-damaged in understanding reality.

How about a special bill authorizing the military draft of one individual, Kristen Gillibrand.

Draft her into the Navy then assign her as the coffee procurement aide, and latrine cleaner for the new Secretary of Defense.

Hey Bimbo! “Civilian control” of the military is the reason why we haven’t won any wars lately, why we end up fighting for ten years and why we have so many military men and women dead or ripped apart by your Muzzie pals. STFU! Just my two cents. And shove your ROEs too.

she’s referring to the national security act of 1947, which ostensibly prohibits former members of the military from holding the office of SecDef unless they have been out of the service for a number of years — 7, I believe.

Gillibrand. A stupid statement dumb Gillibrand. I looked and the first Secretary of War was Henry Knox who was a Major General in the Continental and then U.S. Army.

“No you don’t you dumb Dem. You don’t like him because he brings a warrior attitude to the Pentagon.”

Absolutely right.

And then there’s this, by Jefferson:

Were our State a pure democracy...there would yet be excluded from their deliberations...women, who, to prevent depravation of morals and ambiguity of issue, should not mix promiscuously in the public meetings of men.

Democrats’ real opposition to Mattis is he would remove the social engineering crap undermining our military.

They can’t stand it. Rebuilding our military isn’t their top priority.

Does this idiot realize Mattis is a civilian now?

The law specifies that a general officer in the military cannot become Sec Def until he has been retired for at least seven years.

Mattis retired in May, 2015.
