Obama showed weakness in Hiroshima, this is probably why Abe won’t apologize.

Good. Lets stop with the apologizing. The guy is probably too old to be a part of the WW2 decision making process.

Nor should he, any more than Obama should have.

An empty apology for an intended slight, frankly, is insulting. Better to let sleeping dogs lie.

Why should Abe apologize.

The war ended almost 75 years ago

Most Japanese people alive today had not even been born before the war ended.

Time to move on.

Probably in the minority, here, but I don’t feel like every Japanese PM should travel to Pearl Harbor and tender another apology. At some point we should stop expecting an apology for something that happened so long ago. History is replete with dastardly acts by many, the US included. I’m not a fan of us apoplogizing for stuff and don’t see why we would expect it from others. Are we a snowflake country? Hell no! Let’s all just do the right thing going forward.

Yes, but Obama will probably apologize for the Navy to dare shoot down a few of the attackers.

The current generation of Japanese should not be expected to grovel over the mistakes and crimes of their grandparents. There are 1001 ways to express regret, acknowledge historical responsibility, and reflect on loss and lessons learned. I assume Abe will be dignified and appropriate. It’s really no different from a proud southener reflecting on the Civil War without being required to spend 99 percent of his time wallowing through a slavery guilt trip.

The war has been over since almost a century ago. He owes no apology at this point.

An apology for a past wrong is meaningless, unless the apology signifies a change in attitude which will result in a change in future behavior.

So, quite obviously, there is no change in future behavior intended. They can’t mess with anyone now, so they’re being quiet and polite. Maybe this will continue for several generations more, especially given their shrinking population...but make no mistake that someday Japan will again be the aggressor.

He doesn’t need to apologize. He didn’t do it.

I don’t understand this urge to apologize for someone else’s actions anyway. If you didn’t do the deed, you don’t need to apologize.

Unless the current government of Japan bombed us, no apology is necessary.

Why should Abe? The Japan of 1932 and the Japan of 2016 are worlds apart.

Will Obama apologize? I am more offended at his presence at Pearl Harbor than the Japo PM
