I heard it at the time. The difference was, in those days democrats seemed amenable to listening to facts, logic, and reason. One kid mumbled something about not going to the moon when people are starving here on Earth. But the truth is, the technologies that were spurred by our NASA program inspired millions to go to college to be engineers, and cutting edge research meant new products that we use everyday, and countless jobs and industries and the feeder industries and factories that process the raw materials.
Their premises are faulty, they are almost always faulty, we saw a similar deal when congress placed a “luxury” tax on yachts. They thought they were stickin’ it to the “rich”, but they only hurt the folks who were able to lead a middle class life by building, working, and maintaining those yachts.
God’s speed to an America hero.
Along with geologist Harrison ‘Jack’ Schmidt (who later served in the US Senate) they did some real science in 72 on the last manned moon landing. Over 44 years and we haven’t gone back.
Perhaps Trump has more gumption to do this. From Nixon (who closed down the program) this American feat has lain dormant
Exploration and Discovery can only occur when we have honest Science that is willing to accept what is being discovered.
We do not. Our science adheres to preconceived political agendas (i.e. climate change is caused by man).
Gene Cernan walked on the Moon. John Lewis walked across a bridge.
If either were an icon, it would be Gene Cernan, certainly not Marble-mouth Lewis.
This is sad news.
Still, can’t wait for the last Vietnam Protestor to die. Man, what a day that’s going to be!
Harrison Schmidt is still alive and kicking. He called in to Mark Levin's show just before Christmas.
Neil Cavuto on his Fox News program today, did a loving tribute to Eugene Cernan. Cavuto is a real Space Program fan, was a friend of Cernan, and had him on his program often. Thanks Neil for the glowing tribute to one of the great men who once trod upon the moon’s surface. Under President Trump, may we do it again.
I worked on his airplane for years. A true gentleman. He took me and my son to hunt deer on his ranch, the does needed thinning out. He will be missed!
Apollo 17 from PDI to touchdown
ETC. Just search YOUTUBE for Apollo 17 and pick out the ones you want to watch. In fact, many of the significant parts of all of the Apollo missions are on YOUTUBE.
Bump that.
In addition to the development of Arctic resources - it's another venue in which we can lead by cooperative example and exercise joint stewardship in the process of securing the rights of all.
“In a way, we have been in a new “Dark Age” since the last moon landings.”
Yeah, especially since Disco, AIDS, internet porn, social media, ISIS and BLM have all come to pass.
The “Luxury Tax” that got saddled on the Middle Class...
As an ‘unexceptional’ human being according to the current President, please tell me again what the nationalities are of all the human beings that have walked on the Moon?
RIP hero!
Last person to walk on the moon in 1972, 45 years ago. Unreal. And back then we thought the moon would be colonized by now.
I don't consider Lewis a legitimate hero.
Send them at night when its cooler.
You know, that’s reasoned. Perhaps we could send them during the winter months too.
There may be a little convection thing going on between the Sun and the Earth, so I’d be satisfied if they were to first set foot on the far side of the Sun.
There would be a blackout, but for a safer experience I think that would be okay.
We could also send some Sun block, SPF 25-35.
