The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, told his top agents from around the country that he had been asked by President Trump to stay on the job running the federal government’s top law enforcement agency, according to people familiar with the matter.

Trump may have a reputation in the media for saying and tweeting things willy-nilly.

But I don't think he is making these decisions on cabinet picks and others just willy-nilly. He knows exactly what he is doing.

Again, if the story is true, he's got a game plan up his sleeve for Comey. Let's let it play out.

I understand all that, but I also am expecting imminent actions that tells CPBI and ICE to enforce the damn law and forget anything Obama ever told them to do. Stop the influx.

Those in custody now, track them and deport them as soon as possible. Refugees? NO MORE! So much more to do.

Comey? I just don’t have a good feeling and still think there are many others who are untainted that can do an equally good job without the baggage.

I agree with all those points but "imminent action" to us, who have time to relax and sit and read the news and make comments from the computer, may not translate in the same exact sense, when you're the new leader of the country and the free world and have a shit load of "imminent" things on your desk from the get go. Every item on his "to do list" can't be first in line. We have to trust him and let him do the job we hired him to do.

It's too early for us to get our ire up over Trump when he's got half the world, half of the country, all of the Left, all of the anti-Trumpers and a good portion of the GOPe Right breathing down his neck. He doesn't need his own supporters making it worse by jumping into the "Why hasn't he made good on all of his campaign promises already?" fray.

Again, regarding Comey. I am sure there are plenty of good candidates to replace Comey but we're not doing the interviewing. Some good people have baggage. Some good ones turn these high target jobs down. They know they can't win-for-losing. I think Trump's got a plan involving Comey and I'm willing judge him by what happens down the road. He's in the cat seat making the decisions, not me.

I know it's been a long time coming but the guy's only been in office a day and a half. He'll get these things done. Give him some breathing room.

I agree. If Clinton ever gets indicted, Trump can always say that Obama appointed Comey. Comey won't recommend prosecution for the private email server but there is still a chance she will be prosecuted for play for pay in the Clinton foundation. Of course the Democrats will complain about Sessions being Trump's man. Sessions can always have someone else in the DOJ make the decision to prosecute Clinton.

Until an official announcement comes out, I will still recall the reports saying Willard Romney is going to be nominated as Secretary of State...

“Big Mistake”

Agreed. Comey has proved he will quash legitimate investigations that are politically inconvenient to prosecute.

“Surely President Trump can find someone more credible to head the FBI!”

He could do that by rousting out a homeless guy down in the slums.

“Trump is not stupid. stop thinking he is.”

I wonder if he’s going to force Comey to make a bunch of criminal referrals. Valid ones, of course, but the ones Comey refused to make earlier.

That would be fun.

As the FBI director, he will be required to show up when summoned and respond to any level of questioning desired on prior actions and decisions made by the agency. If he were a private citizen, it would take a subpoena to get the same amount of information. I’d keep him on until I found out what I wanted to know.

I wonder if there isn’t something that Comey has held on to that can be used later. Comey’s been very unpredictable. He’s stated more than once about things going on on the left, but has quickly backed off as if he was ordered to by someone.

There’s a new sheriff in town. Let’s see how this unfolds.

Should not the President (I like saying that now) wait until the new Attorney General is in place before making changes in the FBI, ATF, and other LEO agencies? I am not sure I can read this as an endorsement of Comey any more than it is a criticism of Comey.

My head is not exploding. Comey has proven to be a sleaze doing the bidding of leftists. This is simply a horrendous call by Pres. Trump. Comey is one of “the swamp”’s prize alligators.
