FBI: Washington State Gun Owners Not Complying With New Background Check Law

According to a (widely debunked) Harvard University study that was widely touted by The Trace, 40% of firearms transactions in the United States happened without a background check. The real number is actually more like 20%. Still, the state of Washington implemented a new law last year designed to close the so-called gun show loophole which allowed citizens within the same state to transfer a firearm between themselves without going through the NICS system.

The FBI has just released a report showing that private party transfers in Washington following the new law accounted for only 2% of the total background checks.

Sounds like they need to put in place another law making sure they REALLY, REALLY mean it when they say you gotta comply. Or else.

Liberals believe in breaking the law when it suits them.

They can’t pick and choose which laws they will enforce.

Sucks to be them.

It irks me that, having filled out the background check form, I have to keep filling them out for each purchase. Seems like a valid carry permit and the original form should suffice and just check to see if the person has been flagged -— until we get full Constitutional carry as fulfillment of the 2nd Amendment....

HOW do they know this ? If I sell a gun to a friend, family or co-worker we, they, me, them, us, etcetera don’t discuss it with goobermint sorts much less pollsters or census sorts ..... my BS flag is half mast on this report. As usual I may need to be corrected. I know some states are socialist ran and require reporting all transfers etc ...

Aww, that’s so sad.
They should look at the compliance rate with NY “SAFE” act requirement to register long guns.
That will really frost their totalitarian shorts.

If there are 50 states, then 2% from Washington State means that they are meeting a pro-rata share.

By the liberal’s math, the 40pct number is even higher. The law prohibits two buddies at a range trying each other’s pistol. Or a dad handing down grandpa’s 30.06 to junior with out tons of paper work.

As many of you know, this is really where gun violence starts and MUST be stopped - with Grandpa’s old .22

So that debunked Harvard study...yeah, it was wrong but in the other direction.

Anyone who believes ONLY 40% of private sales are done without a background check needs to get out more.

90%. Easy.

The Washington law is a prosecutors nightmare that requires the state to disprove so many negatives as to make it unenforceable. Some prosecutors have publicly announced that they won’t prosecute under the new law. Any honest appellate judge would declare it unconstitutionally void for vagueness and being overly broad.

It’s based on an estimated number of private sales. Which is based on a ratio to commercial sales. Other than King County and the Vancouver area, everybody has guns. The general opinion is that it’s none of the government’s business. Those happen to also be the safest places to live in the State, (by coincidence.)

20% is ridiculous. They are making assumptions, most likely that Firearms are passed down from one Generation to another.

Oh the horrors of tolerating the actions of a Free People.

Here in NV they can’t currently enforce the one passed by ballot initiative in the just past elelction due to an error on nannie bloomers sycophants part. Conflict from current requirements and the new intergalactic background check requirements. BIG DOH! They (dementocrats) will try to do something to overcome the issue in the upcoming legislative session. Hopefully they’ll fail in their attempts.

The real number is actually more like 20%.

In other words, 80% (or more) of firearms transactions are controlled by the federal and state governments in direct violation of the 2nd Amendment "shall not be infringed" clause.
