Minister visits Malmö (Sweden) as shootings continue

Sweden's interior minister, Anders Ygeman, visited Malmö on Monday, just a day after another man was shot dead in the southern Swedish city. A 23-year-old man died in hospital after being shot outside a restaurant on the central Möllevången square at 6.40pm on Sunday. The man was known to police, with a series of previous convictions.

He is the latest person killed in a spate of gun violence in Malmö this year. On January 3rd a 22-year-old man was shot dead in the Fosie district, just a week before a 16-year-old boy was killed in Rosengård.

A janitor who was shot last week while clearing walkways from snow remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Interior Minister Anders Ygeman met police and local representatives in Malmö on Monday to discuss strategies to crack down on organized crime in the city.

“We have to mobilize all resources in our society against these gangs. From the government side we have to tighten punishments, streamline prosecution and have more police officers,” he told broadcaster SVT ahead of the visit.

Sounds like they need common sense gun reform.

It is interesting that there is no mention in the article as to who these criminal gangs are and why they are shooting these individuals.

Normally in the US criminal gangs target members of rival gangs to shoot. I don’t see a Janitor being a member of a gang. And if he were that would typically be in the police briefing papers.

Curiously devoid of pertinent facts is this article.

Perhaps a time-out for the problem-children, or a safe-space for stressed out folks?

Locals will view the problem as unsolvable, and do the only thing possible....exit the city and find some town down the railway line far outside the shadow of Malmo, and just buy a house in a small quiet town. It’s called urbanization, and typically (doesn’t matter if it’s the US or any European city)....it’s the only method that you can use because of politics involved.

I will point out one odd feature of demographics of Malmo. Around 15 years ago....they had a population of 260,000. Today? The population is 320,000. Vast majority of the gain? Non-Swede.

But here is the interesting thing....at best, they generate maybe a couple hundred new jobs a year in the city. It’s been that way for a decade. So this 80,000 net-gain for the city? Where are the jobs? These are people who came looking for the ‘magic kingdom’ and maybe in the 1990 to 2000 era....there were jobs for most folks. In Malmo today....the unemployment rate is close to 14-percent (8-percent is the Swedish norm). My guess is that a fair number of folks are in some job-training program....so they aren’t being counted as part of the problem.

All of his is leading toward the fall 2018 election and a right-wing shift in politics. In two decades, Malmo will be this odd major city where most people come from miles away to work, but quietly leave each day to return home to a safe non-urban village.

And yet the media can’t figure out why Trump referred to Sweden in a speech on the lawlessness of immigrants.

We’ve known here on FR that mass immigration fuels the violence we see on the streets.

What part of Chicago is Malmo in? Oh, Sweden, you say?

There can't be any shootings in Sweden. They have strict gun controls.

"We’ve known here on FR that mass immigration fuels the violence we see on the streets."

As do strict gun laws that prevent law abiding citizens from protecting themselves.

5 years ago, when this newspaper still allowed comments, I used to troll the Swedes by blaming their racism for the crime and telling them that they needed to do more to integrate better with their new friends from the Middle East. In particular, I’d tell them to stop dressing so flashy, tone it down with the music, drugs, and drinking, etc. Often they would react with anger...but it was all in good fun for me.

...and now, their own government, and the German government, is saying the same thing. I was joking...but trying to make a point as to where things were heading. I guess that I was right too.
