What is utterly astonishing about the fierce contest between the national press and President Trump is that the press does not realize how despised it is by most Americans, and how richly, as a group (which contains many individual exceptions), it deserves to be despised.
For 18 months Donald Trump campaigned with great energy all over the country, swept most of the primaries, many by astounding margins against a large field of candidates, and made a point of denouncing the national media as biased, self-serving, and malicious myth-makers. He referred to them hundreds of times as “liars,” and directed the very large crowds that he drew to the press section, and his supporters shook their fists in unfeigned rage at the press gallery. Did the complacent, bemused national press think they were paid plants or that it was all a spoof?
Virtually all of the press opposed Mr. Trump, and after ridiculing his bid for the nomination as mad and an enjoyable occasion for an egotistical billionaire buffoon to make a complete ass of himself at great expense to himself and the profound mirth of the journalists, they lapsed into a slightly uneasy assurance, when he was nominated: It was a bit surprising that he demolished the Bush-McCain-Romney centrists, but the Clintons were unstoppable, his defeat was practically certain and a matter of national deliverance from evil and garish foolishness in the showdown with the invincible Hillary.

What I hate most of all is the charge that Trump is trying to “suppress” the media when all he’s doing is DISAGREEING with the media.
Official Washington is being traumatized by the tweets of Donald Trump.
Politico has chronicled the pearl clutching concern by the inside the beltway types over Trump's tweets. Trump speaking directly to the people via Twitter is causing a crisis among mediots, politicians and lobbyists. They just don't know how to handle it as the article title, “Trump’s Twitter feed traumatizes Washington.”
“...and his supporters shook their fists in unfeigned rage at the press gallery”
I saw a lot more one-finger salutes than fists at the rally I went to. :)
A very long article which uses a lot of large vocabulary words with which I am unfamiliar, but well worth the time to read the whole thing. It’s very well reasoned, and well written.
Most excellent and well worth the time to read the entire thing
And if you think this past election was ‘hell on the very fake news’ you haven't seen anything yet...all President Trump has to do is build the wall, get the ILLEGAL immigrants out, take care of our Veterans, steam roll the stupid ‘BarkyCare’, and he will win another 4 years...and the ‘very fake news’ won't be anywhere around because they will be to busy trying to find out where President Trump is going to be next...
You ‘very fake news’ have dug your graves and now you lay in them, your done, finished, over....
Conrad Black ??
I thought he was banished to a gulag in the great white north?
And never allowed to use any writing instruments, or have any communications south of the 45th parallel ?
Yes, Conrad Black tends to be a little wordy and long-winded. Still and excellent and thoughtful analysis.
Are you referring to Conrad Black’s status as a criminal alien?
Dictionary.com is your friend.
Black wields words so deftly and with such sure aim, he is a joy to read. Each word is arguably the perfect choice in the finished piece. If the press had the capability to understand such precise prose, it would shrink in embarrassment at its own behavior and delete every inane diatribe leveled at Trump and his supporters: the American People. Lacking that capability, they will spew forth more garbage and wonder why they need to censor comments from their readers.
Great read. Thanks for posting.
“Are you referring to Conrad Black’s status as a criminal alien?”
After the government had screwed him deep into the ground,
at one point he was banned from the USA for 30 years!
IIRCC he beat most of the charges.
I’ve posted this before so I’ll post it again.
There is a rather raucous group of relatives on my mom’s side of the family; if any of them were to encounter the media at a Trump rally there would be middle finger salutes and loud curses from the men and hiked skirts and dropped pants from the women.
