If true, Trump is edging closer to being a one-termer—Assuming he lasts that long.

Here’s the secret to understanding this: Trump does not see true productivity as being a zero sum game.

That said, true scrutiny needs to be applied. People who expect to play in the American game need to have high ideals, not low ones.

Or rather, your far-right contingent is edging closer to throwing out the best blessing America has still seen for decades.

H1-Bs should be looked at with the whole chain migration, lottery, etc.

What bothers me is that expelling the 10s of millions of illegals in the country currently is not a priority.

Also notice that there is another shoe that could drop.

Trump has been talking about border taxes unless there is fair (or as I might call it, balanced) trade.

That, applied to H1B staffing, would encourage these firms to hire more locals AND to treat them right.

Wait while the proverbial Saxon gets angry, because he doesn’t want to do that in a moment and have a weak case.

It depends on what the meaning of "priority" is. No doubt this is a sop to business while Trump hectors them to bring the jobs home to America. With Jeff Sesssions and Steve Miller in the administration along with Kris Kobach as an advisor, I am not concerned at all by such statements.

The MSM has been trying to undermine Trump's support by slanting stories about DACA, H-1Bs, and the building of the wall. The meme is that Trump is not going to follow thru on his immigration promises. The pundits are in for a surprise.

We don’t want to throw away the old tire with a patch on it, until we figure out how to get new tires back in production.

Otherwise, the car won’t go anywhere at all. Not even to take tire manufacturing staff to work.

Tax restructuring, easing regulations, and the like will add up to achieve such a picture.

I am amazed at the people who think that, with no sane plan, Rome can be rebuilt in a day.

The MSM does seem to be schizophrenic about it.

Either it paints Trump as being way left, or else it paints Trump as being way right.

“Hell forbid” that Trump should be seen as having some center-oriented philosophy.

And notice too that these tend to be Democratic lefty workers. Trump had to not overly alarm them with rightist rhetoric.

I think the program that DESPERATELY needs reform is the F1 Student Visa program.

The numbers of people coming into the country on that one absolutely DWARFS H1B. A lot of them are dunderheads with no good reason to be here, with a sprinkling of really dangerous terrorist types thrown in for good measure.

The main problem is that they let universities basically rubber-stamp the visas. If you have the price of tuition you can enter the USA. And the colleges of course have a vested financial interest in taking as many as they can.

That goes for even really shady and online schools. (Why do you need a student visa to enroll in an online school? I’d really like to hear the answer to THAT question!)

Then they get 12-28 months of work authorization for “practical training”. The original idea was that they’d learn engineering, get some hands-on experience, and then go back and help to build their home countries. But very few ever do. Most manage to land an H1 sponsor during that time period (using incredibly fake resumes).

Yes, the H1B notices that disappeared after the election are posted outside the HR office again.

Of course not.. CEOs are clearly more favored than working class taxpayers.. and much more to come. How much in tax breaks and over what span of time for Carrier, Sprint... all the CEO Christmas presents? With a Trillion dollar stimulus in the wings, who do you think benefits from that cash infusion? I doubt it is taxpayers.

For all-internet schools it sounds silly, but maybe this is a mixed physical presence and virtual curriculum.

Trump would doubtless make an effort to sift the productive from the easy riders and shift other incentives.

It’s a straight-and-narrow kind of path to tread, to be humane and yet to never give away the store. Because if you give away the store, there’s nothing left to be humane with.

There are more cards to play here. Border taxes could easily apply to H1B, shifting the dynamic.

I have been working on the immigration issue for almost 10 years including lobbying on the Hill. I have every confidence that the Trump Administration will do the right things on immigration. There may be some compromises I don't like, but overall, Trump has selected the right people to deal with the issue. Steve Miller, the author of Trump's immigration position paper, will make sure that the interests of American workers are placed before all else.

This is a tempest in a teapot. As a Trump supporter from the very beginning when he entered the race, I am not concerned at all. Bush 43 was almost as bad as Obama when it came to immigration.

A brilliant 4.0 student from some other country getting a visa to come to MIT is one thing.

But we’re talking scores of C-and-below kids trekking across the ocean to enroll in places like THIS.

(yes, that school really exists....it is not a comedy routine from SNL)

In fact if I had Trump’s ear, I’d put a strong hint in it about that.

The American pie should ultimately have first dibs by the American worker. Trump seems to be about incentives except in true emergency cases like shutting out terrorists (since there is no incentive in the world, short of shooting them on arrival, that would stop them otherwise). That’s more of the free market way.

Companies went to H1B because that was an escape valve for a dysfunctional tax and regulation structure that exalted nanny state uber alles.

It stinks that this should happen, but let’s fix the need for having an escape valve before we talk about other things. I can vouch that H1B has both downs and ups. These folks don’t have as much skin in the American game as Americans do, for starters. Their visa-dependent statuses are a temptation for firms to create sharp dealing policies towards them (as I found out as an American caught in this maelstrom).

This is the Hindu equivalent of a theological seminary. I sure don’t believe in that religion but they have a right to practice it. As I, a Christian, have a right to preach Jesus to them (which in fact I did).

The question is what happens afterwards.

If it’s a theological seminary they don’t need to be issuing large numbers of F1 OPT’s for software engineers each year.
