President Trump has told Republican leaders that he's prepared to play hardball with congressional conservatives to pass the GOP healthcare bill, including by supporting the 2018 primary challengers of any Republican who votes against the bill.
Sources told the Washington Examiner that Trump made that threat in a White House meeting on Tuesday with House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., and other members of the House GOP whip team that helps line up votes.
Trump's threat is one that could resonate. Most of the Republicans who oppose the GOP's American Health Care Act represent ruby red districts that strongly support Trump and his agenda.

“conservative or liberal, I dont believe it either way. Not when unnamed source”
Fair enough. I did say IF its true. The examiner is not the NYT so and they have a pretty good track record so let’s hope it’s not true. He should be threatening Ryan and the rest of the rinos, that’s what Reagan would be doing. Same on the Senate side for instance the worthless Flake from AZ is up in 18
Phase 1will probably be stuck in First gear for 4yrs...I don’t like and trust Benedict Arnold Ryancare!! If another representative wouldve presented healthcare plan it would’ve made a world of difference but because it’s coming from Ryan I am hesitant 100%! I don’t trust him!!
I just tweeted Pres to stop threatening conservatives. Can’t believe he swallowed Lyin Ryan’s lies!
“:^|
Agreed for the most part. What I do know is that 1: in accomplishments, he’s been fantastic. Better than any of the other possibilities. And 2: I voted for him for immigration enforcement to stop the libs from their vote fraud, and so far he’s been awesome on that too.
We also need to let Trump know what we want. Contact the WH and Congress. If we do nothing but complain and take no action, the fault is partially ours.
Not fake. Read his tweets.
Two many people in that meeting for false reports.
Not surprising that Trump sounds a bit open to considering input when he meets with folks one on one. Part of the book on Trump has been that he can sometimes be swayed by whomever he’s meeting with. Or, at least he gives that impression.
“I just tweeted Pres to stop threatening conservatives. “
Is there anything else you did today based on “unnamed sources”?
Making sausage. Meatloaf. Whatever.
I do NOT see this as Trump, trying to force a particular version of healthcare repeal/replace.
I DO see it as his way to keep his promise to improve the situation.
I do NOT see Trump as a policy wonk. Leave the weeds to Ryan, Price, Paul, Cruz and many others.
Hs threat to jeopardize their happy, gerrymandered reelections doesn’t bother me.
Didn’t go by that. I read his tweets.
You are correct.
I don’t understand why people here think Trump was going to magically become a small govt guy. He is for more efficient govt, not at all the same thing. He loves our federal entitlements and has always been clear about that.
Entitlements are the only problem which is as big or bigger than the illegal immigration problem, partly because entitlements encourage more illegal immigration. But while Trump is great on one, he is not likely to be any help on the other.
Ryan originally was the exact opposite. He was the Donald Trump of entitlement reform some years back, wanting to shift them all to the states eventually. A goal which would have made America great again in a VERY bigly way.
But Ryan was always soft on immigration. And now is comically misguided on entitlement reform as well if the Obamacare Lite bill is any indication.
Trump's threat is one that could resonate. Most of the Republicans who oppose the GOP's American Health Care Act represent ruby red districts that strongly support Trump and his agenda.
Does the author really think the Republican voters in these "ruby red" districts are going to support a primary campaign against a House member who stands up against Paul Ryan's ObamaCare-lite disaster?
These people may have voted for Donald Trump, but they're not going to buy everything that gets peddled by the GOP leadership in Washington. Ask former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor how that worked out for him. One of the Republicans who is opposing the RyanCare bill is Dave Brat, who defeated Cantor in the GOP primary in 2014 on the strength of his anti-RINO campaign.
See my post 39. :)
Fake news...sources dead giveaway.
There a FB posting from Trump about this “refuorm”. He’s getting hammered by even his supporters for this farce. It’s nice to know it isn’t just Freepers who don’t like being sold out.
Kissing ass is not Donald’s style.Kicking it is.
I’ve only been able to hear a little about this on the radio, so please correct me if I’m wrong —
Phase 2 will be allowing competition from out of state, right?
Why not put that in Phase 1?
I can understand squishy senators not backing crackdowns on low income insurance, but darn, it’s common sense.
And then there are the other add-ons that have nothing to do with improving a typical American’s health, such as a ‘chop-it-offa-me’ or an ‘add-a-dicta-me’.
And frankly, why should everyone pay the bill for AIDS treatment? Of course, I know such a question is taboo.
“right now I trust the Pres. I am willing to go along with it.”
Ditto that. He knows what he’s doing.
And if the rino-fu$$% screw this up, they’ll have to deal with him.
‘Does the author really think the Republican voters in these “ruby red” districts are going to support a primary campaign against a House member who stands up against Paul Ryan’s ObamaCare-lite disaster?’
I could imagine Preibus telling Trump some BS like that.
Why is Trump postponing competition across state lines?
How on earth does that even make sense?
