American media missed the rise of Donald Trump because they spent too much time talking to each other and too little looking at factors that challenged their conventional wisdom. That was the conclusion of Nate Silver, purveyor of fivethirtyeight.com and perhaps Americas leading political numbers cruncher.
Journalists should recalibrate themselves to be more skeptical of the consensus of their peers, Silver wrote in the last of his nine-part series The Real Story of 2016, which appeared Friday.
Silver said journalists rejected information that could have led them to conclude the Hillary Clinton campaign was not the slam dunk they perceived it to be. He said they got convinced by national polls that Clinton was further ahead than she was and ignored tightening polls in even those states, such as Ohio and Iowa, that had proven to be bellwethers in the past.

The MSM is continuing down their path of self destruction, and Mr Trump will win again in 2020.
Thanks Nate, very insightful.
Water seeks its own level. Journalists seek their own kind......................
They didn’t reject info that showed Hilary might lose, they actively and aggressively campaigned for her
I get annoyed when they refer to the election of 2016 as “the greatest UPSET in political history”.
It wasn’t.
She never had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning........................
Liberal media bias is like a regional speech accent. The MSM all have the same political accent so anyone not liberal sounds like a hick hay seed to them.
That’s a good way of depicting it.
Was ?
It still exists.
Nate Brass is really twisting himself in knots to avoid saying that the media is a propaganda operation and nothing more.

Freeper LS documented how Trump won inspite the massive attacks on him by Silver, other pollsters and the lying mediots in the media.
You can get LS’s great book on Kindle:

Was? As in the past tense?
And let’s not pretend they weren’t engaged participants in a massive attempt to thwart the will of the people via disinformation.
Hive mentality..................
Even if the left wing media thought the race would be closer, it would still have promoted the notion of an inevitable Clinton win if for no other reason than to discourage Trump voters
Nate Silver - Captain Obvious.
The biggest thing the media and the pollsters missed last year was the “quiet factor” when it came to their analysis. Because the left was so outspoken and deranged about their anti-Trump stance, many Trump supporters wouldn’t admit to anyone they supported him simply to avoid any conflict or condensation. Even today, I keep quiet about my support for Trump in certain circles, just to avoid any arguments or heartache.
This was a big factor in the electoral results, and one that was completely missed by the “experts”. Trump was always winning, they just didn’t see it through their bias.
They are trapped in their intellects, which are badly disciplined and unrigorous to begin with. So they lie to themselves with concepts and numbers, and miss the qualitative truth that actually drives reality.
In a way - it's no different from their hypnosis with man made global warning. They are addicted to concepts that make them feel good and virtuous. So, they never open their eyes - too busy seeking in the dark recesses of their intellects for concept combinations that support their virtue.
The left will get it when they say 'oh! we are blinded by our pride!' That is, they will never, ever, ever get it. Even when they admit such humble things, it is only to continue their incessant virtue signaling. They are not actually being humble, they merely think that pretending to be so makes them even more right.
The best example of this is when they treat the so called fearful white midwesterners who are afraid of change the way they have always treated, frankly, blacks. Cuddly little creatures for whom they can hide their disdain with a fake humble patronization, reinforcing in concept that they are always one step higher than anything around them.
ALL of their virtue is in concept only. There is nothing real. It's why the new Knowles book is number one on Amazon -> America is beginning to simply know this, even if they can't put it into words. It's hard to put into words 'nothing real,' which is a table of contents and 266 blank pages the left perfectly.
