My Congressman, McClintock CA 4th, represents rice farmers. All these countries eat rice.
We pay farmers billions not to grow food. No starvation is natural. All starvation is man-made geo-political manipulation, slow motion murder for political power gain.
Please ask the President to declare an international crisis. A new Marshall Plan for Africa.
Bomb them with food. What a positive PR blizzard for the Trump Administration.
How doo you keep the rice out of the hands of the islamists who are causing the famine?
Governments are responsible for that.
Trade an end to Islam for Food....
Their governments are corrupt or impotent.Usually both.
Giving free food to Africa, Asia or anywhere else has the effect of driving the cost of food down so that local farmers can’t make a living. Who can farm rice or corn, try to make a return when the US provides free food?
If farmers can’t make a living, they do other things and the cycle of poverty is exacerbated.
Aid is only a “bandaid” (pun intended) and the aid sometimes ends up enriching the tyrant and doing little to help the suffering people.
You need a viable industrial infrastructure to support a large society. This cannot happen during civil war.
It’s not our problem.
And other factors like geography (for food production).
My (rather limited) experiences traveling in Africa suggest to me that corruption...particularly *government* corruption...is a major factor in Africa's woes.
If I'm correct to believe that it seems imperative that any efforts to help distressed people there cannot go through the hands of local,or national,officials.

Any attempt to resolve the problem without eliminating militaristic Islam and political corruption will just result in dependency and the suppress local initiative. Just shipping in food won't help. The guys with all the guns will just steal it. it's been tried before.
Lets send them all our kale, quinoa, and Brussels sprouts (even the name is evil)...and some cases of PBR to wash it down with.
The concept of Christian charity (yes,I understand that you may not be Christian) suggests otherwise.
Pretty strongly suggests,in fact.
Just sayin'....
President Trump could do that by killing off all of the muslim and tribal warlords who lord over those godforsaken African lands.
But that isn’t going to happen, because all of the scumbags at the UN would be kicked off of their gravy train.
Oh, and throw in the fact that the tribal Africans and the fundamentalist muslims flat out refuse to advance from the 7th century means that Africa will always be ruled by the most ruthless ones out of the bunch.
The West has dumped Trillions into Africa! Can anyone show a return for the money we have spent? No!
Stop spending and let those people figure out their own problems!
Sending food only worsens the problem since their farmers can’t compete with free food.
