I was hoping the change would come immediately.

In other words, Trump as President with his influence could have supported replacing Ryan as speaker.

Maybe that will happen now.

You’re not. You’ve got it right about losing the toe to save the foot.

The govt is already too much involved with healthcare with Medicare, Medicade, prescription drug program, etc. Obamacare has only made things worse and never designed to actually work. Single-payer is the goal of the progressive / socialist left.

I’m a 100% trump supporter and will go down fighting tooth and nail as long as he fights. This was a setback, but is in no way a defeat. He will get this done!

If you remember, President Trump repeatedly said during the campaign that we were going to take care of all Americans vis a vis Health Care/Insurance. No Americans should be dying in the streets. He is correct.

My personal belief is that President Trump stood by Ryan’s crappy bill and let it twist in the wind. He gave the appearance of giving it his all despite its myriad of problems. It failed. Good. Time to move on to other things and return to Obamacare a bit later and do it right.

Remember though, Rand Paul has a bill in the Senate. While I do not know all the details, it is worth hearing it out. And maybe that was Trump’s plan all along. He and Rand get along and have talked recently. Trump had to let Ryan’s bill fail so that Paul’s bill can move forward without hinderance. SO maybe that was the plan. Who knows.

And now at the risk of offending many of our dear readers and participants, I say yesterday we dodged another bullet.

Agreed

The only toe shot off was the arrogant Paul Ryan. I don’t consider that a lose

Repeal the monster government over-reach that IS Obamacare!
Once THAT vampire is staked, dead, buried and beyond resurrection ... then and ONLY then should the GOP look at ANY sort of insurance reform. My personal preference is allow sales of policies across state lines and allow people to buy as little or as much medical services insurance as they want and can afford.

Anything else is government intervention in matters it has no business being involved in.

Just my two cents worth.

Yes, we dodged a bullet.

That part is all fine to the good for now.

The question what are the Freedom Caucus short and long term goals? Because they don’t seem to be leading, just reacting.

I was with Trump in wanting the bill to pass, because I believed that failing in his first major policy initiative will hurt his chances to get the rest of his agenda passed. I also recognize that Trump ran on the promise to “repeal and replace”, not just “repeal”. Obamacare resulted in millions people losing what they already had. Millions of those folks voted for Trump. And many are older with pre-existing conditions. Just dumping them without anything would violate Trump’s promise not to let that happen. I’ve also been critical of the Republicans being unwilling to move incrementally, which the Democrats are so successful doing.

Anyway, it didn’t pass, for good or ill. Trump isn’t letting it stop his agenda, and the important thing now is to move on and work on getting the rest of it passed, starting with getting Gorsuch confirmed.

The Freedom Caucus deserves our thanks for stopping this nonsense. And yet, we have posters (that claim to favor repeal) that want Trump to “primary” the Freedom Caucus. They seem to hate the Freedom Caucus only slightly less than they do Ryan.

It’s a shame we don’t have a thinking and acting Conservative as President. We could have had Cruz.

Your ride is just like mine. And I agree with your assessments on all points that you have posted in this thread.

Specifically regarding healthcare, joethedrummer recently reminded of the following point and I thought it was very well put, so I quote him in his entirety...

I don’t get any of this...

Obamacare/Trump/Ryancare is NOT healthcare; it is putting a financial GUN to our heads in order to FORCE us to buy INSURANCE.

That’s the bottom line for me.

It’s utter corruption and banana republic tactics.

Government, GET THE HELL OUT OF IT!! PERIOD!!!

I think tax reform should have been done first. Which is what is going to happen now.

Also, it looks like the failure of the healthcare law is going to be hung on Ryan—which is where the blame should go. This is a good thing.

A lost toe to preserve foot and limb (or life and liberty, in this case) is much preferable to the alternative (don't ask me how I know).

lol - Sweet ;-)

In his column today, Scott Adams does a great job of explaining why the best news of this is the fact that the “Trump = Hitler” idea is dead. The Left is already starting to spin the Trump is Incompetent story now, which is OK because we always expect the other side to say that our politicians are incompetent, just as we do with theirs.

His “two movies” theory is excellent and I recommend reading back in the blog to understand it because it explains modern politics and why no one on one side can convince anyone on the other.

Now, that Trump is obviously not Hitler (because he can’t make his own party jump off a cliff—as Obama was able to do), the Trump is Hitler movie that plays on a continuous loop in the minds of the Left is now broken.

He’s not trying to lose, but I think that he isn’t really playing to win right now. In fishing, you sometimes have to set the drag and let the fish run for a while before you start reeling it in.

They think they’re winning. He’s just letting them run themselves until they’re tired. And when I say “the Left”, I include RINO bastards like Ryan and McCain!

I wasn’t going to vote in this National Election, that is until President Trump announced...

From then on I was 100% behind him, in National work, in State work and in City work...I worked my butt off for that guy, and worked hard on this site for that man, I could see the person who could lead this Nation back and gather her people...

I watched every one of his rallies, I did a lot to help President Trump...not one look backwards, and I knew that we would have our ups and downs when he became President, nobody always wins everything, and as far as I am concerned, President Trump won yesterday and so did this Nation and so did her people...

This crooked bamicare is right where it should be, around the liberal Democrats neck and there it will hang and always be remembered that it was the worst thing done to this Nation as was the person it was named after OBAMA...a fraud, a liar, and a phony in everything that is in his life...

God doesn’t make mistakes, and God has His Hands on President Trump and this Nation and her people know this...
