“You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they’ve tried everything else.” - Winston Churchill
“A lost toe to preserve foot and limb (or life and liberty, in this case) is much preferable to the alternative”
I agree. I hope Trump sees it that way!
Take it easy on yourself. I’m convinced Trump had no interest in getting Ryan’s bill passed, despite all his public posturing.
Christians make a lot of mistakes. Don’t go wallowing in gloom about it. The eraser for all of them is on the cross of Calvary.
There are going to be disappointments. We just have to expect that. And then get back at it and never give up.
Some people say, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.”
G.K. Chesterton said something to the effect of “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing badly.”
It’s going to get messy, and then more messy. And then we will either win or lose. And then - either way - we go back to fighting. There’s no rest in THIS life.
On all points...
Amen.
Right on all counts Jim.
Disappointing to see how many freepers wanted a rearranged Obamacare hung around our necks and Trump’s.
It’s my opinion that it was Ryan’s plan to preserve as much of Obamacre as possible and hang it around Trump’s neck to make him a one term President so they could get back to business as usual, importing cheap labor and selling out America.
Cruz would have been a much better, more articulate President. But his “body of Christ” talk left post-Christian, brainwashed America clueless about what to make of him.
Every time I see the President, I think, “Thank God not Rotten Clinton!” This push for socialism lite was a clunker, but we were spared from blame for the imminent health care cataclysm. Trump is super smart, and I think, (hope?) that he has learned from this debacle.
It’s actually way past time for a new speaker of the house.
Ryan is a miserable failure and an arrogant ass, and he’s working for the globalist.
I thought you were gonna say Ryan was a good guy.
Bottom line (i.e. “here is what matters”). Trump is president, and will be for quite some time. hilary isn’t.
I could have written this post (including the “don’t ask me how I know” part since we are dealing with that also in our home), so thank you for putting it in a much better words for me.
God bless America and God bless you, JR.
Jim,
What would you sacrifice to stop the tax financing of the murder of the unborn?
We are not talking about shooting a toe off: it’s the sacrificing of children to the gods of convenience.
“So we shot our toe off and delivered a defeat of his first legislative agenda item. “
That’s the bottom line.
Now, we have a chance to repeal it.
(I was for Cruz too....and then supported and voted for Trump)....I am still a big Cruz fan.
I am convinced that it is the democrats that missed an opportunity here not the republicans, and Trump. Had that bill passed it would be Trumpcare not Obamacare and all the failures built into Obamacare become Trump problems. As this plays out it might be funny to look back at all the liberal gloating over the last few days. This must be the 1,000 time that Trump has had it, the end for Trump.
Interesting. This was also my path to Trump and also my reaction to them pulling the bill.
I also do not think ACA is constitutional - but the law hardly matters any longer.
Keep praying for Trump - in particular his choices for advisors.
Correct. We dodged a 50 caliber bullet yesterday. And it pains me that so many Freepers are angry and bitter against conservatives of all people! And of course, I’m speaking of the House Freedom Caucus who were responsible for defeating Obamacare light.
In addition to remembering all of these fine points that you pointed out in your essay, Jim, we all need to remember that we will all live to fight another day. I do not believe that we are stuck with Obamacare forever. I do not believe that we will lose the House and Senate in the mid terms. And I do not believe Donald Trump is abandoning his promise to repeal Obamacare.
Regroup and reassess. Focus on the future. It still looks bright to me
