Agreed, it is a sovereign state and if we have not been invited, we shouldn’t be there. Declare war or get out.
And what about the possibility that what happened in Syria was a false flag event?
Opposing a war on the ground is not the same as opposing a punitive strike against Assad for using chemical weapons.
Whether a lot of people want to realize it or not, punishing such extremely bad behavior is VERY much in the interests of this country in general, and our military personnel in particular. If this kind of behavior is not punished swiftly, soon and very much directed at those who ordered it, then it will occur again. Remember how Quadaffi stayed VERY quiet for about 25 years after Reagan bombed his house and a bunch of other targets in 1986 - after we determined that his country was instrumental in a disco bombing in Germany that killed some Americans? Well, the same reasoning applies here. We didn’t actually go to war in Libya there and then, and we won’t be going to war against Syria here and now.
I dont believe President Trump is going to war with Syria..I think he is just saying this because of what happened with Obama and the red line..I think Trump knows most likely this “chemical weapons” attack is pure BS but doesn’t want to say it because then the media will call him heartless
Our interest in keeping refugees out of here and other western countries.
What if the Syrian government, such as it is, didn’t do it?
The initial reports came from the British foreign secretary (who wasn’t there), a rebel (Read: ISIS) commander and an unnamed “weapons expert”. The story in the media hasn’t changed but the evidence has gotten a LOT murkier.
I absolutely hope you're right on this one. I hope this is a gambit illustrating "The Art of the Deal."
Disaster imminent.
Correct. That was childish. Obama and the establishment was dying to go into Syria. But 85% of Americans stopped it, thank God. I'm sure it's the same now. The war mongers may think fake pics of children will drum up war fever. But they won't.
The US has no direct evidence this was Assad. There is nobody, anywhere, claiming physical evidence of any kind.
We should not slow Assad’s progress in controlling Syria without knowing, for certain, he used CW.
Also, on another thread it’s being reported that Tillerson is working to build an international coalition for regime change in Syria.
That is not possible without troops on the ground.
That is a false dichotomy.
It does not take regime change in Syria to keep refugees out.
Therefore, no compelling US interest.
Going into Syria is a bad idea.
Not because Assad doesn’t need it, but because Obama short changed our military so much that they probably couldn’t meet the readiness requirements.
As bad as the Syrian situation is, it would be better to wait a year and build our military back to a functional state.
First proof is the STUPID Russian response that it was others hitting a rebel stockpile.
...which would have vaporized the agent, not dispersed it.
You know, Trump did just fine without Coulter “reminding” him of who he is.
He was talking about this when she was still supporting W.
The Democrats would love nothing more than to get the Trump administration bogged down in Syria. That’s why they keep pushing for it, not because they have any legitimate concern for the Syrian people.
1. Every country with a leader who is worth a damn will have a stockpile of WMDs just to protect itself.
2. This is why the U.S. probably has more WMDs than the rest of the world combined.
3. We all know this and recognize the rank hypocrisy of the big-government globalists who have polluted the ranks of our country's leadership for the last 25+ years.
4. Yes -- there is a good chance that many foreign countries have a legitimate need to defend themselves against the U.S.
“Everything Ive read about that gas attack in Syria indicates it was a false flag operation”
I simply don’t see Israel being the first to use WMDs when they’re not being attacked, their survival isn’t at stake, and they have less than zero to gain from killing a few dozen people. If we did it, then it is the Deep State in action - but I am not quite that paranoid.
That leaves Syria and Russia. Russia has no particular reason to do this - it would, best case, make their proxy/ally look like the next worse thing to Hitler and Nazi Germany. If they got caught, they’d be a pariah state for a long while. They’d also set themselves up for a chemical attack at home by Moslems - and there are enough attacks of a more conventional nature that they already suffer from that they don’t need to invite more. Putin is far from an ideal human being (or even an ideal leader), but he isn’t that stupid. There’s simply no upside for Russia to have done this. Syria - well, that sick bastard Assad has done stuff like this before, and the Arab world is VERY big on revenge, so he and his regime seem like the logical choice. The move is irrational from a Western P.O.V., but not from the Moslem/Arab one - in the latter, if you DON’T punish your enemies you’re seen as weak and you invite more rebellion and assassination attempts. If you do punish severely and indiscriminately, you are respected - not liked, mind you - but respected enough for people to leave you alone for a while. Maybe he understands that he will shortly be the winner over there, and that he needs to seal the deal with some terror. Again, not logical from a Western P.O.V., but he simply isn’t Western even though he wears nice suits.

Trump mentioned “babies” “little babies” “children” in his statement at that press conference. They can’t call him heartless. I hope he didn’t draw a red line like Obama did.
“You know, Trump did just fine without Coulter reminding him of who he is”.
Trump needs to be reminded.
I’m not for regime change, I’m for ending the civil war.
When it does, refugees will stop pouring out.
