Nobody can twist the facts and rewrite history better than the New York Times well maybe the Los Angeles times.

Our Little Brown Brothers have had their panties in a twist ever since they couldn’t subdue the Texans. Mexico (as successor to Spanish colonial imperialism) had no more legitimate claim to the territory the US took after the Mexican War than the US did (as successor to British colonial imperialism) - it was a simple matter of who could take it and keep it. The only people with a legitimate beef were the Natve Americans.

Mexico remains a fundamentally corrupt and lawless society, which owes its limited prosperity to the US. There are very good reasons that the US has prospered while Mexico has not and why Mexicans come North rather than the other way around.

They can go [deleted] themselves.

Foreign ownership of a nations media should be a crime against humanity.

Looks like they didn’t get the drift the first time we won. Guess we will just have to take Baja California, the long finger of land below California, then make it a limited US territory but without the privilege of being able to come and go into the USA.

If we had kept the other half, Mexicans would be as prosperous as the rest of America.

In 1848 both sides of the border looked alike. In the intervening years, we turned our side into an engine of wealth and prosperity. They turned theirs into a corrupt crime-ridden hell hole that forced people to risk their lives and look for a better life across the border.

The Baja Peninsula is quite large in area - 55,000 sq miles.

That's roughly the same land area as the state of Florida.

“When is Enrique going to give back to the His Majesty, King Felipe, Rey de España, what is rightfully his? As in, all of Mexico?”

Oh my, too bad for Spanish royalty. I have it on good authority that the descendants of the Aztecs have already claimed first dibs...

We have conquered Mexico TWICE, didn't find it worth keeping, and gave it back.

The Mexicans have never forgiven us for that.

Instead Mexico is trying to make it’s northern border Canada.

Liberal crybabies forget (or don't bother to learn history) about all the incursions of Mexico into USA towns where innocent citizens were killed or maimed. After the USA won the war and got California (as you say, purchased it, by paying off debts of Mexico), the border incursions continued. General Pancho Villa attacked a USA town in 1916, and was chased back into Mexico by US forces for almost a year. This would have led to another takeover of Mexico and more concessions, but US forces were called back due to entry into WWI. Too bad we didn't wipe out the Mexican government in 1917.

Trump should encourage them to start a war over it and then use that as a pretext to annex the Baja Peninsula.

I agree and said as much in a previous post. I remember back, oh 20-25 years ago, when Mexico sold 99 year leases of some ocean front property to some Americans who were retiring soon, to build their dream homes to retire to. Once all these homes were built in this Shangri-La place the Mexican government at some level revoked those leases, kicked the retirees out and took those homes for themselves. It was the worst back stab I can remember Mexico doing and made a mental note to never trust that country again and in fact stay out of that corrupt hell hole.

Most of those retirees weren't rich. They put all they had into those homes so they could live their remaining years they way they had dreamed of. Mexico stole all of that from them and kicked them out.

Never ever trust Mexico. Never.

I'm not saying the Mexican people are like its government but the culture of corruption in Mexico at that time taught me corruption was part of its culture because the Mexican people didn't do a thing to stop that theft from those retirees and might have even secretly cheered it. It didn't stay in the news for long and was forgotten; but not by all.

You are right. I hadn’t thought of it that way because I don’t want Ca, if it goes down, to drag the rest of the US with it, but having large portions of 2 major coasts, Atlantic and Pacific as well as Gulf is an important strength that we should not give up if there is anyway to fix the problems in that state. If we lose Ca, we will lose a large portion of our access to the Pacific.

I really don’t know if Ca is savable, though. The liberals have it in such a choke hold.

Yes I remember that. It’s ridiculous that Mexicans can come here illegally and no one would dare question any of their basic civil rights including property ownership, but if we try to go there completely on the up and up and buy a simple beach house, we’re discriminated against, and our property rights are subject to the whims of whatever corrupt government happens to be in power at any given time.

They are calling for a lawsuit that would aim to nullify the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (signed on Feb. 2, 1848), in which Mexico — invaded by American soldiers, its capital occupied, its ports and customs stations seized — was forced to accept the American annexation of Texas and concede more than half the rest of Mexican territory, now including most of the states of Arizona, New Mexico and California.

I suppose we can start laughing about the realities that are not stated. If its capital, its ports and customs stations were occupied or seized, why didn't the United states simply remain, and replace the pervasive corruption that still exists to this day?

When, in history, has the loser of any war claimed, and prevail in getting back territory lost in a war 168 years before?
5000 years of written history, and not a single example. Why do you suppose?
