The Wednesday, April 5, episode of ABCs conspiracy drama, Designated Survivor, may as well have been written by the Brady Campaign, or any one of Michael Bloombergs consortium of anti-Second Amendment organizations. For those unfamiliar with Kiefer Sutherlands new role as President Tom Kirkman, he seems to have done a complete 180 from his days as 24s Jack Bauer. Sutherland now stars as the reluctant president, thrust into the role after an attack on the State of the Union address kills most of his predecessors administration and the entirety of Congress.
The warning signs were there. When the staff director for the Senate Energy Committee calls the administrations office, Kirkmans staff advises him to stick to wind and solar, two technologies that, despite tens of billions in subsidies, account for less than 7 percent of the energy produced in the U.S.
Things only get worse from there when the new First Lady gets asked about gun control at a luncheon.
Host: Next question -- "Considering our country recently witnessed two separate acts of gun violence -- the death of Vice President MacLeish, and the assassination attempt on your husband -- what are your views regarding gun policy in America?
First Lady: Oh! Honestly, this was something that deeply concerned me long before Tom and I ended up in the White House. When something as simple as a mandatory background check can't get through Congress, then, honestly, I-I have to wonder how we got here. How do we tell our children that we are doing everything to keep them out of danger? I-I don't know the answers to these questions, but I do know that we need to deal with guns differently in this country. Thank you so much.

“How do we tell our children that we are doing everything to keep them out of danger?”
Deport illegals?
Build the wall?
Stop all muslim immigration?
Nationwide concealed carry?
And all sanctuary cities?
Gotta wonder if this was written and “in the can” before Trump’s victory. I noticed the little bits of propaganda in earlier episodes, but it seems the Hollywood writers just can’t help themselves. This latest bit was over the top for me.... I had hoped that this show would be more, but I can see the way the plot is going. Working toward some ultra-right nut job conspiracy. I’m done.
I need to remember to talk to my daughter about that episode. I happened to be in the room, and she (and mom) were ranting at the TV that the purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to be able to overthrow your own government.
BUT - I also wanted to point out that the “reasonable” views that felons and mentally-ill people should be prohibited from having guns is NOT in the Constitution.
If “felons” and mentally ill people are so dangerous that they can’t own guns, why are they out on the street at all!!!???
About a week ago, I had a conversation with my liberal dad (we watched part of an episode of “The Virginian on YouTube) and he told me about back in those days, westerns just dominated everything on prime time. Kind of like these crime/political dramas nowadays and Dad remarked about how he was getting a bit fed up with that and how graphic they had become in recent years.
I don’t know if this is fully relevant to the thread here, but I could not help but think about something like this (then there are my fond memories of Friday nights on CBS with “The Incredible Hulk” and later “The Dukes of Hazzard”) when I read this story.
I think Hollywood really, really thought we would have a president Hillary right now.
They really did.
They did not realize, that Americans are getting sick and tired of every single media outlet operating off one single leftist talking point.
Right. What’s the deal with Madame Secretary? When is it going to fade away? Do people really watch that cr*p?
I had the exact same thoughts. This past episode was way over the top.
I stopped watching this show really early on because of the PC crap all through it. I thought it might be ok because of Keifer Sutherland and his association with the original “24” but....NOOOO. It’s really in the PC hopper.
Oh they can't, the wife and myself like the show Major Crimes, the continuation of The Closer. The weekly subplot is the Captains gay adopted son and his boyfriend. In most cases it completely ruins the flow of the show. Adding to it, this week's episode there is a mad bomber harassing a teenage boy and girl talking in a park. Before the harassing scene goes down the girl is telling the boy she has a crush (of course the boy hopes it is for him) NOPE the 15 year old girl has a crush for a another girl. It's absolutely amazing how much 2% of the population gets around.
Ditto
Can’t watch it anymore.
We watched the episode last nite. I started 30 second FF to get thru the anti 2nd A crap. i told my wife earlier in the week that I couldn’t stand the “First Lady” a hypocrite left winger if there was one. Goody two shoes, armed security for me, not for thee. Plus “Tom Kirkland” is too calm during all of this. Any left winger faced with similar events would be off the charts.
We should have known this was coming with the pro-Muslim crap from the get-go.
I like the show but... PLEASE send Rusty to school back East. Begone!
“Designated Survivor” was one of the few prime time network TV shows that I faithfully watched every week.
The PC tidbits were noticeable here and there, such as the late president talking about the 1% during the State of the Union speech before the massive explosion took him and everyone else out; the pro-muslim statements here and there, etc.
But last Wednesday, when they started in with that “gun-control” crap, I turned off the TV five minutes into the show.
I turned the TV back on a half-hour later, and they were STILL yammering away about guns. Off went the TV.
“Designated Survivor” was one of my must watch TV shows. Now, I will never watch it again. ‘eff ABC, ‘eff Designated Survivor, ‘eff Hollywood liberals, and ‘eff Keifer Sutherland.
For those not familiar with the show, it is about pirates and Nassau and competing power players. Usually lots of action and fighting between various factions and some slower conversational script mixed in.
Right in the middle of the final episode, one of the key pirate captains is captured but then reunited with his gay lover and they kiss as the scene fades to another part of the story.
We both agreed, after audible groans from both of us when the kissing scene was on, that inserting the homosexual agenda was a downer and ruined the final episode for us.
We don't want to watch and exciting action pirate show and have some writer insert an obligatory gay scene to satisfy their own personal agenda.
Exactly.
I never watch THAT SHOW but it happened to be on just at that moment when I walked into the room. I thought I was seeing 1970s and 1980s anti-gun TV propaganda all over again.
Needless to say I immediately turned the TV to another channel.
