USS Gerald Ford, CVN-78, goes to sea for Trials

The first in class of new carrier, the USS Gerald Ford, CVN-78, went to sea for its frst sea trilas.
The US Navy made the following statement:
"NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 08, 2017) - The future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is underway on its own power for the first time. The first-of-class ship -- the first new U.S. aircraft carrier design in 40 years -- will spend several days conducting builder's sea trials, a comprehensive test of many of the ship's key systems and technologies.

This is historic day. This new class will be built over the next twenty years, replacing the Nimitz class. Each will serve for fifty years or so.
Ou grandkids will be seeing them after we are long gone.
God bless the sailors and all who work so hard to maintain them and operate them...and fly thos fatastic birds off of them when the time comes. As well (I might add since I have been involved in the past in that type of work), those who design and build them.
