A Detroit physician and his wife were arrested this morning and charged by criminal complaint unsealed today for their alleged participation in a conspiracy that involved performing female genital mutilations (FGM) on minors.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Blanco of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel L. Lemisch of the Eastern District of Michigan, Special Agent in Charge David P. Gelios of the FBI’s Detroit Division and Special Agent in Charge Steve Francis of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) Detroit Field Office made the announcement.

Fakhruddin Attar, M.D., 53, and his wife, Farida Attar, 50, both of Livonia, Michigan, are charged with conspiring to perform female genital mutilations on minor girls out of Fakhruddin Attar’s medical clinic in Livonia. Were they born here?

He got his medical degree in India, so I'm guessing not.

Y’all need to read up

It’s more common in animist Africa than the Muslim world

Some amazonians do it too

Folks here think it’s Islam

It’s not really

Far more prevalent in tropical African primitives

Why I don’t know

I don’t blaming Islam but it’s not the truth per se

The rate in some Central African nations is 90%

(Here is a list) of this barbaric practice HERE in the USA! Once again we don't see Muslims who call themselves Americans stepping forward to condemn this horrible crime against women. America and Islam are not compatible in any form. Practicing Muslims in America must step forward, take their place in this free society and stop this non-religious practice of female genital mutilation.

Must be eradicated from the United States— I agree—But can we trust a Government that invited the enemy here to begin with? Can we trust those mere politicians who even now insist Islam is a religion of Peace—and America must accept Islam as the new America we live in.ISLAM will
continue to dominate until those Christians that yet remain in this nation “Born a Christian Nation” cry out to our God /Repent of our Sins/ and demand a government that will protect us against this enemy invasion.ISLAM is the problem!

I agree this must be eradicated.

What these girl-maimers do is as radically evil as the sex-change charlatans. Actually, the sexual-reassignment surgeons go further than FGM: they actually permanently maim (disable) total normal male or female sexual and reproductive function.

Plus, the sex-gender-reassignment operatives are worse, because they are socially/politically protected, and because they will force our cooperation via taxation and actual participation.

Catholic hospitals have been sued because they would not participate in any way with so-called sexual reassignment: pre-surgery, surgery, or post-surgery.

But defending natural sex and gender wholeness is considered bigotry, a hate crime.

Years ago, my husband and I decided not to have our son circumcised (medically) as a newborn, because it has no religious significance to us as gentile Christians and we did not think it medically necessary.

However, I would say that male circumcision is not morally reprehensible as FGM, because it does not destroy male pleasuring or procreative function. Circumcised males still freely enjoy sexual pleasure --- arousal, erection, orgasm --- and face no heightened risks to sexual/reproductive success.

On the contrary, I'm told there also exists a (perhaps slight) health/hygiene advantage, i.e. reduced transmission of infections. That's why it's still widely done in a totally secular setting.

That's why I think suggesting a direct moral equation between male circumcision with FGM is misdirected.

Mrs. Don-o, excellent points all of them! Deportation for all those who commit this crime...one strike and you are out! The same for the honor killings done in the USA....deportation or jail with no appeals and solitary confinement so you don’t infect other inmates with your horrible beliefs.

It was the only good law sponsored by Harry Reid.

Agreed... that was in 1996. In 2013 they outlawed "Vacation Cutting" where parents take the daughters abroad to have it done.

I wonder if Obama's DOJ ever prosecuted anyone for FGM or if they considered that discrimination of some sort.

We don’t do this barbarism here.

We don’t do state religion here.

We don’t have sharia law here.

What are these people doing here and why would we allow them in?

“Interesting that the same practice when performed on males is never referred to as “male genital mutilation” but simply “circumcision”.
_____________________________________________________

you dork, it’s not the same thing. rather than just cutting the top layer of skin off, with FGM they cut the whole thing off. Let’s see you get the same practice that the little girls get.

I find male or female genital mutilation a.k.a. "circumcision" a barbaric and morally reprehensible practice, but my personal views on the subject are irrelevant from a legal perspective. We have this thing called the First Amendment which contains the "free exercise" clause concerning religion. When San Francisco tried to ban (male) circumcision a while back, this was defeated as (among other things) a clear First Amendment violation.

So when a similar defense is offered here (and that is the defense that any competent attorney will mount) on what basis will it be argued that this religious practice is not deserving of equal protection? Both are amputating sexual body parts without the consent of those on the receiving end of the practice.

The law is designed to protect people and practices you disagree with, because that's the only protection you have for your own practices that others may equally disagree with.

This is a wedge issue, to be sure. But there is opportunity to use this to widen the debate to other areas of liberty that are under equal assault.
