After a tumultuous election campaign filled with scandal and surprises, the French public began to vote on Sunday on whether a pro-European Union centrist or an anti-EU, anti-immigration far-rightist will lead them for the next five years.
Opinion polls indicate they will pick Emmanuel Macron, a 39-year-old ex-economy minister who wants to bridge the left-right divide, resisting an anti-establishment tide that has seen Britons vote to leave the EU and Americans choose Donald Trump as U.S. president.
But should an upset occur and National Front candidate Marine Le Pen win, the very future of the EU could be on the line.
Macron, who wants to deregulate the economy and deepen EU integration, has a 23- to 26-percentage-point lead over Le Pen in the opinion polls.

I'd LOVE to see my theory ... that there is a "take back my nation" drive all over the world ... be proven reasonably true.
A centrist vs. a far-rightist? I thought Macron was a far-leftist who left the socialist party to run in this election, and La Pen is a progressive on everything except open borders and EU membership.
Hitlery was a favorite in most opinion polls in the US also, according to all the liberal media. Ha.
Macron, if you stand back and view the landscape, invented the Progressive Party from scratch (it didn’t exist before 2016).
Macron can call himself 99 different political slants...it doesn’t really matter. His resume is what tells the story.
This is a guy who graduated from college with a degree in philosophy and then went onto a masters degree in public service. He gets hired by the French government to basically become an audit guy of banks (note, no financial degree). Couple of years go by, and the Rothschild Bank comes to hire Macron.
Macron spends roughly five years doing amazing work for Rothschild, but no one ever really says what it was....just that it was amazing.
Then odd, the Hollande government makes the decision to bring him back into the government...in a high position over finance. Roughly three years go by, and 2016 arrives...where Macron makes the decision to create his own party...so he resigns from his job.
It’s a 7-line resume. His experience? It’s mostly out of Rothschild’s empire but you really don’t know what he’s so good at. He’s there to help the bankers and global traders make something happen. Beyond that, he’s just an empty suit.
If I were Merkel and the EU players....I’d probably be asking more questions.
From right to left, where does the press reside?
How much pressure is upon the knife that rests upon the throat of France?
One is a known, the other is a sensation. Which of the two will weigh upon those voting? Both are controlling hearts and minds.
This may well be the last hurrah of French centrist politics. A populist right French President is extremely likely within a decade. It may or may not be Le Pen, but it will be someone very similar to her.
>>pinion polls indicate they will pick Emmanuel Macron, a 39-year-old ex-economy minister who wants to bridge the left-right divide<<
by eliminating the “right” part.
Shhh.. this is the #berkleybrats truth.
Sounds sorta like obammys resume...
The polls say Emmanuel Moron will win but that could be fake polls like the fake news here spewed when the Trump-Hitlery race was going on. On the other hand, we are talking about France here and the French never seem to be happy unless they are immediately surrendering, so I say Moron will win so the Frogs can continue to immediately surrender to Islamo-Nazism.
Fake news. Fake polls. Go LePen !!!
There are just not enough Muslim riots, car burnings and economic hardship yet to teach them that lesson.
The French should take a good look at Venezuela before they elect a far left president.
“Hitlery was a favorite in most opinion polls in the US also”........
Like my father-in-law used to say, “Never give them your right name”, same holds true for who you intend to vote for.
Obama want Macron. Nothing else needs to be said, albeit likely he is gay and his marriage is a farce.
I’m talking, I guess about both men.
That’s the truth! I wouldn’t doubt it would be the same there. The only thing that worries me is have the invaders there outnumbered the regular French citizens.
At my Florida-Heartland radio station, CBS "news" always refers to "far-right" Marine LePen.
