The leader of Islamic State’s Afghan faction was killed in joint night raid by U.S. and Afghan special forces in eastern Afghanistan last month, American commanders confirmed Monday.

Sheikh Abdul Hasib, the so-called emir of the Afghan cell known as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria-Khorosan Province or ISIS-K, was killed along with 35 other fighters and several of the group’s senior leaders during the April 28 operation in Nangarhar province.

Two Army Rangers, Sgts. Joshua Rodgers and Cameron Thomas with 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, were also killed during the operation. Command officials at coalition headquarters in Kabul are investigating whether the deaths of Sgts. Rodgers and Thomas were the result of friendly fire.

One down. More to go. Wipe this cancer off the face of the earth, and destroy all records of the vile death cult so it won’t rise again.

I wonder if Afghanistan will ever be free of these Dark Ages savages. Beat back the Taliban and then al-Queda of Afghanistan arises. Beat them back and now ISIS of Afghanistan arises. A large chunk of that country wants to live in a totalitarian Islamic state. Once we wipe out ISIS, another group will pop up.

May God bless and give comfort to those who gave their lives to help end this evil we face.

In liberating strife,

And mercy more than life.”

All these terrorists think when they open their eyes in the afterlife they will be greeted by 77 virgins. I’m betting the first thing they think when they open their eyes in the after life is “It sure sucks to be me”.

A 1963 book by James Michener, titled “Caravans,” left this reader convinced that the violent tribal nature of Afghanistan is strong, lasting.

The Russian’s experience reinforced that position. And the US has not significantly changed them, either.

Or an age old saying “you can’t make chicken salad, out of chicken sh!te.”

"Beat them back and now ISIS of Afghanistan arises."

Actually, ISIS is only in two eastern provinces and it's estimated they are down to about 800 fighters from a high of about 3,000. Most of them were Chechyn and former Taliban who just went over to ISIS. The main enemy in Afghanistan is still the Taliban who hate ISIS also and have been fighting with them.

The Story of the Malakand Field Force is the first book written by a young Winston Spencer Churchill who as a 22 year old calvary subaltern fought on the Northwest frontier against the Afghanis 120 years ago. Back then most of the country's people followed the Wahabbi sect and the main extreme religious group were the Talubs. The tribal leaders were bribed and paid off and had suspect loyalties.

I have never read Plutarch but I'm willing to bet that Alexander the Great practiced similar tactics when going through Afghanistan on the way to the Indian sub-continent (pre-Mohommed). I know he married one of tribal chief's daughters to gain his allegiance. Some things don't change..

Wipe out one leader and another pops up. It just goes on and on.

Sickening to lose two rangers when four 2000 pounders should have hit the location. The game of whack a mole is idiotic and never makes a difference.

Gosh, sounds like it’s almost over! Just 800 bad guys left, in two eastern provinces.
We’ve almost won the war and Afghanistan will at last be a free nation we are proud to have as a friend.

The Russians and Kipling and Alexander will be perplexed about how WE were the ones to finally win an Afghanistan war. /s

You do understand that ISIS is not and has never been a really big player in Afghanistan, right? This is a side show, the real fight is and always has been with the Taliban and that's not going away anytime soon. BTW, you don't know much about Alexander as he never lost to any of the tribal leaders in Afghanistan and never had any intentions of really conquering them. They were merely a highway to get to his true objective, the Indian sub-continent. That's always been the problem with Afghanistan historically. They've never been the objective, just the means to an end, the highway linking the middle east with the Indian sub-continent and China.
