73 years after D-Day, U.S. still bears cost of a free Europe

There was no NATO when the U.S. stormed the beaches of Normandy to free France, defeat Hitler's Nazi Germany and win World War II.

And the U.S. did it while fighting the Japanese Empire on a second front throughout the islands of the Pacific Ocean onto Okinawa and Japan, winning that war too.

And today, those sacrifices are in vain. Our men and women died so that Europe could become muzzies instead of Nazi’s. Not much different in my book. Both hate and want to exterminate the Jews. France needed us twice. Today, they are once again trying to give away their nation. This time, even our old allies are trying to give away their countries. In fact, we are right behind them.

The original purpose of NATO was pithily encapsulated as “keep the Americans in, the Soviets out, and the Germans down”

No need for any of those these days.

"Europe spits on the US these days."

Only until the next time they need us. Although Kipling was writing about the British Empire, "...it's Tommy this, and Tommy that......until the guns begin to shoot...then it's "saviour of his country"...". Only in this case, it is "...saviour of my (British/French/German) ass...".

And idealistic fools that we are, we'll jump in and save their asses......AGAIN.

Europe spits on the US these days.

True.

But the same EU parasites that spit on American Taxpayers use a fraction of the money they 'save' to butter up assh*les in the State Department. That's how they keep the 'support' buzz going... that and the 'press' works for democrats. Who knows, maybe they're in on the perks.

It's cheaper for the EU to buy off a few hundred American State Department ego maniacs then do their fair share. Thank God Trump sees these people for what they really are...

Not Central Europe, they are still grateful to the US for ending the Cold War and freeing them from Soviet domination.

The US also gets the benefits of Europe being part of the US alliance system and of Europe's reliance on the US dollar as the international trade and reserve currency. Europe thus helps to finance our military spending and baby boom generation retirements. Finally, these entanglements keep Europe and its considerable resources out of any rival alliance system.

Granted, the terms and details of our relationship with Europe need to be adjusted, but the relationship itself should be maintained, even strengthened, if possible, along the lines suggested by Trump.

It seems that the EU NATO members are peeved because President Trump didn't endorse Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which states that a military attack against any member is considered an attack against all of them.

Of course he couldn't endorse Article 5. If he did so, he would have had to declare war on the invading Moslems that have overrun Germany and France ...
