Protests erupted in Tulsa, Okla. Saturday following the police shooting of a knife-wielding man outside a convenience store.

Two deputies and one police officer shot and killed 29-year-old Joshua Barre, who is black, on Friday morning after receiving multiple 911 calls saying he carried “two butcher knives” and threatened people, police said, local media reported.

Barre’s mother, Etta Jones Barre, described her son as “mentally ill,” CNN affiliate KTUL reported

They are all too mentally ill to allow them to run around with butcher knives threatening others. Why don’t these families have their mentally ill members committed?

The laws that the leftists wrote in a bid to give everyone freedom, make commitment nearly impossible.

So I guess the leftist solution is to have them killed.

Reportedly, Adam Lanza’s mother tried unsuccessfully for a year to have him committed. (Sandy Hook)

The State AG fought her on it.

I suppose families can’t afford to pay the costs of institutionalization, and the State doesn’t want to foot the bill.

Plus, the ACLU put a stop to locking up nutty people, back in the 60’s. That’s where the homeless people came from

I bet the people in the store are glad he got shot. At least they are ok.

Nope, you’re wrong. I’m specifically talking about blacks in the inner-cities. Many of them are not mentally-ill in the old-fashioned sense. They are high-school dropouts so they are classified as having mental illness to claim disability benefits.

Most policemen are well aware that if they confront a man with a knife, they will get cut, a man with two butcher knives, it’s a certainty.

Why wasn’t mother, or brother down there trying to corral this guy before he went into the store and do who knows what. No, they dumped him on the local cops.

If he is “mentally ill” that is too bad but it doesn’t change things when he goes after someone with a knife. Mentally ill doesn’t give him license to slice up people.

“Barre’s mother, Etta Jones Barre, described her son as “mentally ill,” ...”

Charge Etta Jones Barre with child endangerment for not having her mentally ill dependent son wearing a brightly colored vest emblazoned with “Don’t Shoot ... I’m the mentally ill son of Etta Jones Barre”.

It is not easy to have even the worst of them “committed” now. You can get him taken in for a few days for an evaluation but then you got him again.

Part of me says good, and part is sad for one of God’s creatures turning into a sick animal and being shot by law enforcement. The mother and the rest of the his family need to think some about that, if capable of serious and honest reflection.

They play "catch and release" in Pennsylvania, too. 72 hour commitment but only if alcohol or other drugs is excluded from the behavior.

Best of all: If the patient "elopes" (ESCAPES) during the 72 hours the powers that be have ruled that the treatment has ended.

Inmates run the asylum.

Governor Reagan released them in the 70’s. Cops can’t do anything until they’ve killed someone. Did you ever notice that no one lives after being shot by a cop? One that’s just wounded will go looking for that cop when he recovers.

Not anymore. And he's also permanently cured of carrying knives into a store.

We need mental health reform as well as prison reform in this country and we need to bring back asylums or state hospitals or whatever you want to call them.

Committing someone is very difficult. They basically have to commit a crime first.
