What gun debate? There is no gun debate in Washington, D.C. (baf alert)

There is zero chance that the shooting of U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise earlier this week will change anything about the gun debate in Washington, D.C.

That’s because there is no gun debate in Washington, D.C. The NRA has won. Not the debate — the gun lobby remains very wrong on the facts. But the group had won the politics — big time.

I have been a gun owner all my life. I’ve shot long guns of every kind and a variety of handguns. I have no problem with people owning them for legitimate purposes. I own a half dozen of my own firearms, several of which have been handed down for generations within our family.

--from the article---(this is about the most disgusting article I have yet seen in the J-S)

Scalise, a Louisiana Republican and House majority whip, was shot with a legally purchased assault rifle and remains in critical condition. If you wondered why he could be in such rough shape after getting shot in the hip, read Leana Wen's chilling description of what happens when a bullet from a high-powered rifle enters the body. The emergency room physician wrote in today’s New York Times:

“A handgun bullet enters the body in a straight line. Like a knife, it damages the organs and tissues directly in its path, and then it either exits the body or is stopped by bone, tissue or skin. This is in contrast to bullets from an assault rifle. They travel three times the speed of handgun bullets. Once they enter the body, they fragment and explode, pulverizing bones, tearing blood vessels and liquefying organs.”

“I have no problem with people owning them for legitimate purposes.”

And I have no problems with liberals having the right of free speech - for legitimate purposes.

Which is bad when conservatives do it but superb when progressive liberals do it....

“shall not be infringed” Simple. Easy to understand. As the Founders intended.

And I have no problems with liberals having the right of free speech - for legitimate purposes.

Only after taking the necessary safety classes, paying the necessary fees, and obtaining a "may issue" permit, of course.

And any time they wish to purchase a conveyance of speech, such as a phone, computer, or radio receiver, they should have to fill out some paperwork, which shall be maintained by the seller. Naturally these documents should be turned over to the FBI upon dissolution of the seller's business.

Cellphones with high capacity free speech (anything over 2G speeds) will require additional licenses and tax stamps.

Any history of drug use, felonies, unpaid child support, use of a psychiatrist prevents the sale of such equipment.

Liberals with a blog site or those that sell free speech devices are subject to inspection by the FBI at any time.

We also need to close the TracPhone loophole......it's for the children.

You want to change the gun debate? Let President Trump announce that he is for gun control, and the deranged Trump-hating crowd will become the greatest defenders of the Second Amendment you ever saw.

I never said the 2nd Amendment was properly enforced. I implied that it should be.

“I have no problem with people owning them for legitimate purposes.”

This line of hogwashery is akin to bigots saying "some of my best friends are blacks."

Notice the rhetoric - a bullet from an “assault” rifle (here the left means any semi-auto rifle) has special destructive qualities, almost by black magic. A bullet from any rifle will go faster than a bullet from a handgun, because the barrel is longer and rifle cartridges are charged with more gunpowder than a typical handgun cartridge. It is simple physics.

Just like a truck will smash through more innocent people than a car. But the leftists don’t blame the truck or their dear Islamist friends when that happens - it is just a weird accident or else it is just one of those inexplicable things we have to put up with, as if it is normal and you are bad or crazy if you ask any questions.

Yeah, it is about the same as, “I am not a bigot, some of my best friends are x” or “I am fine with x people, as long as they know their place.”

"David D. Haynes is the Journal Sentinel's editorial page editor. Email: david.haynes@jrn.com. Twitter: @DavidDHaynes"

Guy doesn't know what he's talking about. A half dozen heirloom guns in the attic is likely a very small number for a Wisconsin resident.

Surprisingly little pushback on Twitter (so far).

I've heard the rifle identified as "a SKS 7.62x39 assault rifle with a sniper scope". I suspect it was also "a 12 gauge fully automatic AK-47 pump action Glock evil black rifle with a threaded barrel, bayonet lug, and cop-killer bullets".

Grenade launcher. Don’t forget the grenade launcher. No assault rifle is assaulty enough without one!
