This is in contrast to bullets from an assault rifle. They travel three times the speed of handgun bullets. Once they enter the body, they fragment and explode, pulverizing bones, tearing blood vessels and liquefying organs.”

Notice the rhetoric - a bullet from an “assault” rifle (here the left means any semi-auto rifle) has special destructive qualities, almost by black magic. A bullet from any rifle will go faster than a bullet from a handgun, because the barrel is longer and rifle cartridges are charged with more gunpowder than a typical handgun cartridge. It is simple physics.
Just like a truck will smash through more innocent people than a car. But the leftists don’t blame the truck or their dear Islamist friends when that happens - it is just a weird accident or else it is just one of those inexplicable things we have to put up with, as if it is normal and you are bad or crazy if you ask any questions.
