About 1,300 US children under the age of 17 die from gun-related injuries per year, a government study has found. Researchers at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also found that guns seriously wounded about 5,800 children each year. Boys accounted for 82% of all child firearm deaths while black children were 10 times more likely to be killed by a gun, according to the study. More than half of these deaths were homicides while 38% were ruled suicide. The study, published in Pediatrics on Monday, also found 6% of firearm-related deaths were fatalities from accidental gun injuries.
"Firearm injuries are a leading cause of death among US children aged one to 17 years and contribute substantially each year to premature death, illness and disability of children," said CDC's Katherine Fowler, who led the study. "About 19 children a day die or are medically treated in an emergency department for a gunshot wound in the US," she told Reuters. CDC researchers examined national data in what they describe as "the most comprehensive examination of current firearm-related deaths and injuries among children in the United States to date". The study found a 60% increase in gun suicides from 2007-15, according an analysis of national injury records.
Suicide was most likely to occur when children were dealing with stressful circumstances or relationship problems with a boyfriend, girlfriend or family member, the study revealed. White children and Native American children were four to five times more likely to die by firearm suicide. Accidental gun deaths appeared to happen most frequently among children playing with firearms.
The study comes as a four-year-old Pennsylvania boy shot himself in the face and died on Sunday. Police in Monroe County have not charged anyone in the boy's death.

Why are non-white and non Native American kids so less likely to suicide with a firearm?
It is probably not access to firearms as gun violence among blacks is significantly higher than among whites.
How are black families preventing their children from committing suicide?
We are way past 60 million aborted babies since 1973.
The records we do have do not include NY and CA, who refuse to report their abortion statistics.
And the most comprehensive stats come from the Alan Guttmacher Institute, which happens to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Planned Parenthood, Inc.
Then, let’s add those who would have been born to those who were aborted in the last 44 years.
We are close to 100 million.
How many of those guns were legally owned?
The fact that nearly all of them are homicides and Suicides shows that “gun safety” is not the problem.
6% of 1300 is 78 young people under 17 a year.
It is easy to give up other people’s freedom for your agenda.

The only relevant statistic is how many of them were 15-17 yr old gang bangers.

But the quote from the study says: “US children aged one to 17 years”.
It is an enormous difference, because the number of children go jump up enormously as they reach to the early 20’s. By including 17 year olds, they increased the number about 30%.
15-17 year olds are not children.

Guns in America have been getting up and attacking children, according to the headline. But gosh, stats seem a little one-sided in the male direction for a random slaughter at the hands (so to speak) of inanimate objects. And when they refer to deceased "children," I guess they're hoping that in our minds' eye we see 6-year-old, blue-eyed, curly-headed moppets in pinafores. Rather than unwashed, 16- and 17-year old gang-bangers who buy or steal guns (which are always illegal in liberal cities) in order to kill each other.
Let me guess: Chi-town, E St. Louis, Balmer, E LA, and Oakland head the list, mebbe? Figures won't lie, but liars will figure.
The ones who really could not give a cr*p if "minority" boys are killing each other in the streets are the minority politicians who make a fat living "governing" these hell-holes and living in gated communities in the 'burbs.
