The controversial “Obamaphone” program, which pays for cellphones for the poor, is rife with fraud, according to a new government report released Thursday that found more than a third of enrollees may not even be qualified.
Known officially as the Lifeline Program, the phone giveaway became a symbol of government waste in the previous administration. Now a new report from the Government Accountability Office bears out those concerns.
The report, requested by Sen. Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, also says the program has stashed some $9 billion in assets in private bank accounts rather than with the federal treasury, further increasing risks and depriving taxpayers of the full benefit of that money.

most programs that are put in by democrats to benefit the poor are actually schemes to take wealth from government and give it to the politically connected.

Some of this comes from simple human greed, but much of it, in my opinion, comes from the ‘the man is screwing us over, and so we’re justified in taking what we can get of that free money’. That’s not a racial comment in any way. It’s an attitude that goes well beyond any demographic.
Hire an illegal to clean your house etc., and pay them under the table without tax - it’s all good because you’re saving money. Claim you’re a native American in order to get special treatment (you know who I’m alluding to), that’s OK, because you’re a ‘social justice warrior’. Collect disability when you aren’t disabled - it’s OK, because ‘life hasn’t been fair to you’.
If you are caught embezzling from a private business, it’s a felony. Embezzling taxpayer money should carry double the penalty.
Any large government program that gives stuff away, especially one that is so lax about eligibility, is going to have great amounts of fraud in it.
The Clintons sent the FBI after Billy Dale for co-mingling funds even though there was no proof of malfeasance. These folks certainly deserve at least that treatment.
Would anyone be surprised if the interest on the money has gone missing even if the principal may, and I only mean “may”, still be there?

Lifeline used to be (landline service) phone “welfare” to the poor just like Food Stamps. I believe both started as benefits to rural communities. Now both are part and parcel of the Obamainians throughout the Amish communities of America. I see EBT (electronic Food Stamps) accepted everywhere and all the “poor” have those phones. Obama and his crime crews raped and fleeced this country. It was nice knowing you ‘Merica.
