Good advice, if a bit long-winded. Short version: your life is your own, make the best of it.
The people that should read this probably can’t.
A very well written piece...he gets it 85%...he left out the missing dads, and didn’t address war on drugs and prison population...albeit the missing dad caused the WOD and prison population. I would like to have worked with him on such a manifesto.
Thanks for posting.
I hope it gets passed around and read.
Lots of good advice but written at too high a level for the intended audience. IMO, ghetto culture, not race is the greatest obstacle to success. Success for blacks in America is actually quite easy as long as you follow a few simple rules. 1- Get the best education you can. Study hard, take it seriously, learn how to do well on tests, take advanced courses. Also, learn to speak well. Standard English, not ghetto slang. 2- STAY OUT OF TROUBLE. Do not commit crimes, a prison record is incompatible with success. That means keep away from drugs, even Pot. It impairs your ability to function, kills brain cells and in most places is still illegal. 3- Go to college. Decide what you are interested in. Major in something real, not a humanity. 4- Whatever job you get along the way, do it well. Develop a good work ethic. Show up on time, be conscientious, develop a reputation for dependability and trustworthiness. That’s all it takes. Business will beat down your door.
The person that wrote this may have had the best intentions but speaking in Professorese gets through to no one other than like-minded long-winded professors like himself.
Major fail.
Get a proof writer who knows how to speak normal English and maybe English with a touch of Ebonics.

There is no Black Community.
The term Black Community is a political fiction, a purposeful lie told to create the appearance of unity where it doesn’t exist. The fiction of unity makes all black Americans prey for their own black politician predators
Rather than a “Community”, Black Americans exist in cultural groups of widely diverse nature and economic circumstances. The cultural groups are so dissimilar that transition from one subculture to another is difficult and for many impossible.
Baltimore is the poster child for the fiction. Baltimore is populated with all the various black subcultural groups and is a total failure.
